Why do they continuously 'discontinue' the make ups we love...

I had to respond to 'Sparks will Fly's...
Mad at Bare Essentuals' with a thread of my own.

So MANY Manufacturers do the same thing. They 'discontinue' to 're-introduce' an New Line with a New Look.

Some of the products are mimicked, some completely new, some the SAME but with a different name, new packaging and ALWAYS...NEW PRICE!

This is where I think we find their motive. We have to explore their new line and spend MORE money in the process of trying to locate and/or replace our most beloved products. (and possibly find some, new we like along the way)

MY FOR INSTANCE: ...my 'bare essentuals' if you will :), is SALLY HANSEN!

I have bought Cornsilk face powder since I was a kid. It was it's own little hidden brand...NEVER changed packaging, nothing. I LOVED it.

Then Sally Hansen bought it out. Changed it's name and look...THEN CHANGED IT BACK! During all of this, I must say, I HAD A FIELD DAY BUYING IT IN QUANTITY AT CLEARANCE STORES, even the 99cent stores!!! :)

But, that Glory day has ended and Sally Hansen is re-doing its WHOLE line and introducing a whole new line of facial products. I know my face powder is probably in there somewhere BUT at 3x+ the cost.

I shouldn't wish this. BUT, quite possibly BECAUSE OF THE HIKED UP NEW PRICE, this product line will fail and I'll have my day again, at the clearance centers...BUT AFTER THAT...THEN WHERE WILL I BE!?!

It's just MADNESS...Thank you ...

Have you tried Palladio? They sell it at Sally's and are quite cheap. As well, NYC's Loose Translucent Powder is only $2 here.

I hate how this "Ooh, it's being DC'd!" line is becoming some brands entire appeal. MAC for instance, has been adding new LE collections each month, causes a mass frenzy because once it's gone; it's gone, only to come back with a similar product 6 months down the line. I get that they make a lot of money, but it's bothersome.

I didn't know there were brands that so openly did that...SOooo, it is the conspiracy I thought it was... only, not so much HIDDEN, as I would have thought.

Oh girl I know exactly how you feel. I used to wear this liquid maybelline foundation in a little tube and it was clear with gray writing I can't even remember what it was called...:( I think it was like everfresh or something

Anyway, I am very fair skinned and it was the ONLY makeup I had that matched my skin color and they discontinued it. I've never gotten over it. And I've never found a color to replace it. And this has been years. Very upsetting.

100% agree

I don't wear much makeup, mainly foundation with some concealer. I used to buy the covergirl trublend...perfect shade, matched my skin exactly, great consitancy...then they changed it. The shade changed slightly, and instead of being a sort of mousse they made it a liquid. Am still experimenting to find a good replacement :(

I'm dealing with this at the moment :(

I really like Maybelline's Dream Mousse concealer for redness around the nose and mouth, and the odd blemish. It's not the only concealer I use and love (CoverFX CamoflaugeFX and Laura Mercier Secret Camoflauge are probably my absolute favourites, though both are more heavy-duty) but the Maybelline is a 1/3 of the price of those two. It was my everyday (spot, not undereye) concealer, and now I'm gutted to hear it's being discontinued.

I already have one backup, and am considering getting another couple. Crazy, because they'll probably go bad before I get to them, but still. Maybelline, what are you thinking?!
