St. Louis de Montfort recommends wearing little chains to symbolize a person's consecration to Jesus through the Mary.

At the end of St. Louis de Montfort’s True Devotion to Mary, he suggests the wearing of little chains to remind a person of their consecration to Jesus through Mary.

It is not a requirement of the devotion, as he notes, “It is perfectly true, these external tokens are not essential and may very well be dispensed with by those who have made this consecration. Nevertheless, I cannot help but give the warmest approval to those who wear them.”

He then proceeds to list several reasons why the wearing of little chains can benefit a person’s soul consecrated to Jesus through Mary.

Sorry, what exactly does it mean "Jesus through the Mary?" I grew up in a Baptist church and have no idea what this means. Thank you and God Bless you for putting up with my question.

Question:
How do you explain to a Protestant that you can pray to Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary?

Answer:

In a nutshell, we’re asking Mary to intercede for us to Jesus, similar to how Protestants ask their Christian friends on Earth to join them in praying for a particular matter—except Mary and the other saints in heaven are definitely in a better position to intercede for us with Jesus, precisely because they’re in heaven. In addition, when we speak of uniting our prayers with Mary’s Immaculate Heart, we’re asking for the Blessed Mother’s intercession in another way.

For more on intercessory prayer, including scriptural citations to share with your Protestant friends, see our tracts on “Praying to the Saints”and “The Intercession of the Saints.”

This does not mean Catholics do not pray directly to the Lord but they use everyone in the family to pray with them for their intentions. :)

That's interesting. Thank you for your patience with my questions. I'm wondering if praying through saints and Mary can be found in the Bible and if you know the chapter and verse? My sincere thanks for your indulgence. God's Grace to you!

We do not subscribe to Sola Scriptura but Scripture and Tradition. So therein lies your confusion. I get it. I have not been Catholic all my life. :) You are welcome to ask questions anytime!

Thanks Michie! Okay, here's another dumb question: Is Sola Scriptura The Holy Bible? Thank you again! Sending love in Jesus' name!

Sola Scriptura or "Scripture Alone" is not in the Bible and is, ironically, a Protestant tradition itself.

Well if ever in doubt about conversing with them for help, consider in scriptures the Saints will judge nations. Saints are also the cloud of witnesses.
So pretty much they're in tune with the world.
Jesus was the first fruits of the Resurrection.
We know He is Alive.
As all are in Heaven. They are intimately closest to the Lord.
We pray for one another.

Yes, the scriptures can prove Tradition and Tradition proves the scriptures.

You really absolutely cannot know the scriptures alone, hence teachers. You cannot have one without the other. Imagine no history or teachers. Where would scriptures be? Do you know who decided scriptures?
The Pope in 382 AD. Do you know who said it was to be believed? The Pope 382 AD.

So protestants cannot say Tradition is unnecessary because the chosen canon/scriptures proves Tradition.

Consider 2 things.
Phillip taken in spirit to the Eunuch who needed a teacher.
And Peter saying 'don't wrest the scriptures alone [referring to the Old Testament because they were not considering their own writings as scriptures at the time] or epistles of Paul.'

No biblical passages teach that Scripture is the rule of faith in isolation from the Church and Tradition.

Michie, is it okay for me to keep rattling off these questions? I'm a "born-again" follower of Christ and have never been taught about religions. I always think of Christians as Christians, that's it. Thank you again for your kindness, and if you're inclined to not press on, I'll understand! We can still hang out on the forums! God Bless you! - Margot

Sure! You can keep asking questions as long as they are respectful and do not degrade our faith. Catholics are Christians just as you are. :) Feel free time ask questions. There are many knowledgeable people here. God bless you!

There are around six different Greek words that are usually translated into English as 'prayer'. These words encompass supplications, intercessions, thanksgiving, etc. Prayer to the saints is not worship! Perhaps this misconception came about from bad translation? At any rate, I Timothy 2:4 upholds the practice of intercession for others, and we are quite cognizant of the fact that Christ's mediation is what makes intercession possible.

So, on that note, let me address the topic (if it hasn't been brought up already) of there only being one mediator between God and man- Jesus Christ. We don't disagree. We do go directly to the Holy Trinity in prayer. However, just like you have people at church pray to for you, we see asking the saints for prayers as being no different.

Asking the saints for prayers is no different to us because the saints are ALIVE IN CHRIST.

The following are relevant scripture about the saints being alive in Christ:

John 6:47-51

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. I am that bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”

John 5:25-29

“Truly, truly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself, and has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of man. Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come forth, those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.

Matthew 27:51-53

“And behold, the veil of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth quaked, rocks were split, tombs were opened, and the bodies of many saints who had fallen asleep were raised. And coming forth from their tombs after his resurrection, they entered the holy city and appeared to many.”

John 11:23-27

“Jesus said to her, ‘Your brother will rise.’

Martha said to him, ‘I know he will rise, in the resurrection on the last day.’ ”

“Jesus told her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?’ ”

She said to him, ‘Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, ...’ ”

Matthew 22:32

“ ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”

Luke 20:38

“and he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.”

John 8:51

“Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever keeps my word will never see death.”

Hebrews 12:1

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us"

Yes, I hope you understand what I meant by I always think of Christians as Christians, not a religion. And I don't think it would please The Lord for me to be disrespectful, so if my questions seem that way, they are NOT meant to be! I am trusting your thoughts about the things I have yet to learn. Thank you again and Blessings!!!!! - Margot

Okay, here goes! And thank you in advance! When I was little, my neighbors went to "Catechism" and I went to Sunday School. I never even thought to ask about what Catechism actually was! So, if you're so inclined, would you tell me about Catechism? Please and thanks! God Bless you!

Catechism is a book of teachings of the Church and instructions.
So we all know what is taught.

Catholic means universal.
All places. same teachings.

I am currently doing the consecration via 33 Days to Morning Glory. I will definitely look for a bracelet once my consecration is complete. :)
