I know it can be embarrassing, but the truth is the truth.
Broadly speaking and this may be an exaggeration to make a general point. But I see two underlying ideas about societal and even world order. The Left of politics has always and mostly related to the counter culture, freedoms of expression, movement, and rights. Especially of the excluded. Generally more socialist I guess as well.Democrats never had consistent policy for today's immigration challenges. At times, they discuss strict deportation, but in power, actions are limited; when facing liberal opposition, they shift toward open border policies.
I have seen each of the democrat presidential candidates and presidents state the exact same policy as Trump.President W. Bush was the only president with a practical immigration policy. He aimed to strengthen borders, enforce current laws, update outdated immigration policies, and show compassion toward those who overstayed visas or entered illegally but had since worked hard and contributed to society. However, that kind of sensible policy was rejected by more than 37 Republican senators, as well as liberal senators like Bernie Sanders and a few other Democrats.
Yes we can see a pattern of this. Which in itself is poor policy for the nation. Back and forth changes and confusion and chaos. No continious and conssistent policy that lets everyone know the law and then apply that law so that people see you mean it. It just undermines the nation and tells those trying to take advantage that the nations don't know what they are doing.President Trump lacks a clear immigration policy and is focusing on mass deportations. When this administration's term ends, these actions are likely to cease, and the US will revert to its previous approach.
This seems a strange turn around as I think Trumps Latino vote increased in the election. Those who voted knew his policy on immigration. The wall and all that and the promise of a tough stance on illegal and criminal immigration. One consequence of President Trump's actions is the increasing shift of Latino voters toward the Democratic Party. There are millions of Latino supporters of Trump who have been affected by mass deportation policies.
Yes. Those affected would find it hard to vote for someone who split up their family or caused them to go back to their nation not to seperate. They have been there long enough to start a family and new life. Many of these families, despite being American citizens, are impacted by the administration's stance and may be unlikely to support Republican candidates in the future. For example, it is difficult to imagine a son whose father was deported under a Republican-led administration choosing to vote for a Republican candidate later in life. Similarly, a grandfather who’s granddaughter and her mother deported due to these policies would likely hesitate to support another Republican.
Yes I agree. The thing is when we step back and look at the bigger picture. How long has this been going on and is it getting worse. I know the populations are growing. I think radicalism is growing.A comprehensive immigration reform, similar to what W. Bush proposed, is needed to address immigration issues. We should strengthen and secure the border to prevent unauthorized entry, update asylum laws for modern needs, and revise the court system so immigrants with criminal records are denied permanent status and deported more swiftly. The process for eligible immigrants should be expedited, and we should show compassion to undocumented individuals who have lived in the U.S. for decades.
Pope Leo offers his strongest criticism of Trump yet
[The Pope] is, she said, citing a church tradition stretching back more than 100 years on the issue, that includes ensuring the rights of families to remain together and protecting their spiritual needs.
The Pope underlined that last point himself when journalists asked about an immigration facility near Chicago where detainees have reportedly been barred from receiving communion. Many people targeted in the ICE raids are Catholic, from the Americas.
"I would certainly invite the authorities to allow pastoral workers to attend to the needs of those people," he said.
Emerging to address a bank of TV cameras outside his papal retreat at Castel Gandolfo and offering to answer "one or two questions", Pope Leo XIV said there were people who have lived in the US "for years and years never causing problems, who have been deeply affected" by Trump's hardline policy on migration.
Speaking in English, and reaching a US audience directly, he reiterated the Catholic belief that every Christian will ultimately be judged on how they welcomed "the foreigner".
I wondered when this one would show up. The woman was fleeing from a traffic stop and ran into a daycare. ICE did not target a schoolArrest by federal immigration agents at Chicago day care sparks outrage
A teacher at a Chicago day care center was violently dragged out and then arrested by federal immigration officers, several local, state and federal officials said at a press conference.
Rep. Mike Quigley, D.-Ill., said that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents followed a teacher into the facility on Wednesday morning without a warrant and "abducted her in front of her students."
Quigley later told reporters the detained teacher had a work permit.
DHS said in a press release that her work authorization "does NOT confer any type of legal status to be in the U.S."
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said ICE did not target the day care and were instead conducting a "targeted traffic stop" of an undocumented woman from Colombia.
She added, "The illegal alien female was arrested inside a vestibule, not in the school."
