In Genesis 2:18, it says that God created Eve to be a companion to Adam (God says that it is not good for the man to be alone). With companionship, there is all types of possible intimacy...spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical.

If there are children, marriage can provide a safe environment for them to mature in, like Desi said.

Marriage also points to the relationship that Christ has with His bride, the church.

I think that for Christians, marriage is also a calling...not everyone is called by God to be married.

I think that "human" reasons to get married may not be too different from seeking intimacy and companionship, love and family. People may also marry for financial security. Also, some may marry because it's what is expected of them (pressure from family, etc.)

I'm looking forward to reading other people's responses to this thread.

It is to be the Ultimate relationship between 2 people much on a different level then regular relationships.

Purposes- to be loved when we are unloveable
- to be prayed for when we need held up
-to be held when we are ill
-to be encouraged when we are down
-to be cherished like Christ cherishes us

Your spouse should be your best friend, a confidant, someone who believes in you, stands by you, wheather you deserve it or not. Ari

Well....
Eccl 4:9-12

9 Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their work:
10 If one falls down,
his friend can help him up.
But pity the man who falls
and has no one to help him up!
11 Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?
12 Though one may be overpowered,
two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. (husband, wife, Holy Spirit)

Matt 18:18-20

18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
