Random question here because it genuinely confuses me!

Why do atheists try to stop any and all religious belief? I mostly see them trying to interfere with Christian practices but... why?

For example: I can understand why a Christian would try and witness to and convert a person of Islamic faith or Buddhist faith to Christianity. We believe we will go to Heaven after death and want others to be able believe in Jesus and join us in eternal peace in Heaven.

But atheists don't believe in anything... so if they want people to switch to atheism, there is nothing to benefit from it. Like there is a benefit if you convert to Christianity - you don't spend eternity in hell, and instead have eternal peace in Heaven with Jesus.

But in atheist's minds, if they don't think anything is out there anyway, then why even bother trying to change peoples minds or get in the way of religious activities? There is no gain in that.

Is what I'm trying to say even make sense?

Thanks in advance for any answers!

Guilty consciences?

Isn't a conscience given by God to everyone at birth as a way to tell right from wrong? If that was the case, then wouldn't their consciences be telling them that Atheism is wrong?

Yeah, well, that is kind of the point, if your conscience is telling you something is wrong you have to fight all the harder against it.
It also might be a case of misery loving company.

I don't know if you will be able to get a good answer to your question here as only Christians can post in this particular sub forum. I could speculate on the question but , not being an atheist, I cannot really say my speculation would be an accurate representation of what an atheist would say.
One comment I would make is that I disagree with the idea that atheists don't believe in anything. In my experience, they believe in many things but not God or gods .

Psalm 10:4

In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, “There is no God.”

The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.

That is a great question.

Atheists have made Atheism into a religion...... and the noisy segment of the population of Atheists will tolerate no heresy...... in any form.... and they tend to be tough even on Agnostics who you would think that they would have at least some respect for?????

Ego. The ego of some people is not simply satisfied with being right in their own eyes, they must also make sure that everybody around them agrees with what they see a right.
This is not merely an Atheistic thing, a whole lot of religious contention is caused by the same prideful thinking.

Atheists, like other people, who are not born again,
are "the world",
and "the world" hates Jesus, as Jesus says,
and Jesus warned ahead of time "You permanent disciples of mine will be hated as I am hated" ...
This warning ahead of time, so they would not lose heart, nor be afraid, but rather be encouraged, and full of joy when troubles come. (and boy to they come! (daily) )

Yes. At least some of them. Others are taught evil early on, and their consciences so seared there may be little if any hope for them. Remember it is written that the whole world, two thirds of mankind left after one third is killed, REFUSE TO STOP worshiping demons. They won't even think of turning to God to be helped nor healed nor saved.

Some think religion is holding the world back, from what i have read, that the world could be better without it, also how you could believe in that imaginary 'sky daddy' that is stupid etc.

Good question.

I'd like to stress though, it's primarily atheist activists that try and do away with
religion. Most atheists probably don't publicly emphasize their atheism, and may not give religion much thought. There are also atheists who are very anti-atheist activist.

The reason atheist activists tend to give for wanting to see religion removed (as they probably won't admit to a guilty conscious) is that religion impedes progress of any kind (like NBB indicated). Particularly socially. Gay rights would be a major one. In their mind religion is a result of primitive thinking. And as long as it's around, it will always present a thorn in the flesh for issues like abortion, same-sex unions, etc. And they generally target Abrahamic religions over eastern religions in that eastern religions, in their mind, although still primitive don't pose as much of a threat.

My family is mainly atheist. They "don't want anyone to tell them what to do". They are blinded by their unbelief--as it says in 2 Corinthians 4:4 "The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God."

It's a matter of not wanting to relinquish control to someone else. They want to dictate how they spend their lives with-out having to answer to anyone.

As to why they try to 'convert' others is because they want to be surround by people who think the way they do. Why they get upset when the Word is spoken, I don't know. If you don't believe it--why get so upset? Makes no sense.

Some make themselves god and/or don't want there to be a god that they have to submit to.
Do atheists do that? I mean did one or more say so ?
I've seen a room full of 'gods', but not calling themselves atheists. They called themselves saved or christian..... and it did not matter to them what Scripture says, nor what the Almighty says, only what their tradition made them.
