Why do all believers who are connected with "tongues" believe that you can "lose your salvation".
This is very curious.
How is a believer not connected with tongues, or some other gift of the spirit?
How do we minister to one another without a spiritual gift? tongues is but one.
I only know of losing, or falling short of the reward of the righteous, which is not the same thing.
2 John 1:8. Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.

Pentecostalism in America originates in Wesley Methodism. But they added tongues of a highly questionable source to it.

I always say to myself, If God hasn't complained about, me not speaking in tongues then I won't complain either. Best to understand, what scripture says first before doing something.

An internet search of "Azusa Street Mission" Wm Seymour and tongues will give two views. One is something to stay completely away from if true.

I've been a believer for over half a century, and this is the first time I've heard of this. "All" seems to be rather strong assertion.

I haven't personally noticed such a trend/connection between the two among Christians. I don't see what one has to do with the other either.

I would guess it is because their belief on the acquisition of the Holy Spirit is a separate experience from salvation or Baptism. I don't know how it is exactly tied to that, but that's my best guess.

Is tongues a spiritual gift still available to some today?

If so it is the most missused.

M
It was a Spiritual gift along with prophecy and other gifts the 12 Apostles distributed as a proof of their apostleship. It only came through their hands, or in the two outpourings mentioned in Acts.

Miracles have never stopped in the Orthodox Church and still occur today, but they have a vastly different understanding from Pentecostals. Mainly, an understanding rooted in Church history rather than a charismatic experience in the early 1900's.

It's an intriguing question, but I wonder... DO all Christians who believe in "tongues" (if you mean Pentecostals) believe you can lose your salvation?

Somehow, I doubt that that is true, but I'm not an expert on this.

Ready for the list?
These all state in their Statement Of Faith that you can lose your Salvation, and i'll just post a few.

Assemblys of God
Church of the Nazarene
Catholic Church (non Tongues, sure)
Church of Christ
United Pentecostal
many more.
Ive been on Forums since 2004, and ive never talked to a Pentecostal or Charismatic who didnt hate , HATE, the idea of "Eternal Security".
They'll probably show up here, on this Thread.

Thank you, "Behold." As you noted, the Catholic Church doesn't belong on the list so that leaves 4. I might question listing the UPC which is normally considered to be a cult, but your question didn't specify that such churches should be excluded, so okay.

Still, I might wish for more, if you are going press your point.

At this point, it doesn't look as though all believers who are connected with "tongues" do believe that you can lose your salvation.

There are 69 million members in the Assembly of God "family".
Catholics 1.3 Billion
Church of Christ - 2 million
Nazarene - 2.6 million.

So just in that list you have a lot of people, worldwide who hate Eternal Security.

ON this Forum, at least 80% will teach that "salvation can be lost".

Id wager a Taco Salad and a Mars bar that of those who are here, are in that list @90%

The Catholic Church doesn't belong on a list of churches filled with or characterized by tongues-speakers, so that leaves you with less than 80 million Christians out of a world population of Christians that stands at more than 2 billion.

Personally, I think the question asked of us has to be answered in the negative.

I wonder, if you 'speak falsely' in tongues, you are deluded, you are cheating yourself and others that you have something from God that you don't, you basically are a liar, give false testimony, and are contributing in making your church look bad,

NOW, i went to church being an almost unbeliever, and the Holy spirit touched me, i know it was him, because since that day i am convinced that God interacts with people and is close to people, now this church, some people there speaks in tongues... i don't but, YOU CONNECT THE DOTS THERE?, if they were a bunch of self deluded, liars and false people, like someone who thinks he has the gifts of tongues and they don't then, WHY THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THERE?, i bet my life it was the Holy spirit, and that was not the only time God touched me, they were several more occasions.

So, think what you want but take in consideration this.

Maybe people only of one group have spoken with you; but they don't speak for everyone. Ones who are wrong can be more pushy so you could be more likely to have them talk with you.

There are non-Pentecostals who believe you can lose your salvation.

And not all Pentecostals believe you can lose your salvation.
