Those that are themperate aren't any more likely to be closed minded. If anything those with less restraint during a discourse are probably less likely to change their mind then temperate people who tend to listen as well as expound their views.

That's not my observation at all. Anyway, you guys figure it out. I have no more to say about it. I gave up hope in this stuff already. I just try to share in the spirit, by finding some kind of useful purpose in this world. Otherwise I have no purpose, and no joy or peace either.

In my opinion a moderate is someone with a mix of liberal and conservative life viewpoints. That is why they may be able to better see things from all sides. This does not mean they are wishy-washy. They have a stance on issues. People with either a solid liberal or strong conservative stance do not understand that and tend to think that others should solidly be in one camp or the other.

I believe that many are called but few will enter. That sounds extreme and not very moderate. But I am sure there are many 'moderates' with a strong knowledge of Christ who will indeed be among that 'few'.

And that is probably why the term "Bridge Builders" was selected. The word moderate has so many interpretations it can be confusing. I think this forum was intended for those Christians who desire to see peace among the body of Christ despite differences of opinion regarding theology and varying convictions based on how we as unique individuals feel God is speaking to us, and apart from the things that are clearly sinful according to Scripture. For example, some Christians may choose to read and study strictly from the King James translation of the Bible. That is fine if it is seen as a personal choice. It is not fine to imply superiority over fellow believers who may disagree, not only on this issue but other debatable topics usually brought up in discussions among believers. And then there are those among us who wish that believers would agree to disagree on a variety of theological issues, and seek to encourage such whenever possible. This is why I find myself making reference to Romans 14 quite frequently, which is what I believe to be somewhat of a "theme" Scripture for this area of CF.

Now, some have interpreted the word moderate to mean wishy-washy and namby-pamby, especially when it pertains to God's Word. By that interpretation, I don't consider myself moderate at all. Christians should never be ashamed to stand for Jesus, following His Word to the best of their ability without compromise, and not allowing what we know in Scripture to be right and wrong to be swayed by "popular opinion", which according to the Word of God is not always right.

This forum used to be called just "Moderate Christians", but as many have pointed out, the term is too vague, therefore, I can see where it may call for a little more elaboration.

I don't know why -- but this subforum does indeed seem pretty dead -- and that's a shame because I think there was good intent in establishing it.

Wanting to avoid the term "Moderate" is understandable; it's kinda like in eschatology, I do not really want to be called a "Partial Preterist" because it sounds so HALFWAY - but yet we are who we are.

I and many would agree the primary cause of the lack of posting to this sub-forum is having a title that does invoke a lukewarm Christian perspective like ‘Moderate’ in todays political climate. I lean more to something like “Unity in essentials, liberty in non and charity in all things”. Or a more recognizable concise version of such.

I wish it were simply called Bridge Builders

but "IN ESSENTIALS - UNITY" or "IN ALL THINGS CHARITY" would be a good shortened name of what you suggested

I think that quote was by Rupert Meldinius, some think it was Augustine

Part of me doesn't want to believe that a TITLE accounts for a lack of participation, yet you are right - some may shy away just cuz of the word 'Moderate'

I don't see why it has to be for Christians, specifically. If we want a place where people can truly come together, it should be interfaith, IMO.

We already have, at CF, a DEBATE OTHER RELIGIONS AND FAITHS subforum, Landon, but it is usually limited to Mormons and Muslims -- hardly ever Buddhists or Hindus...

But the format of that subforum is that only a Nicene Christian can start a topic -- aimed at ONE "non-Christian" group, and members of that group can respond

I know more about Hinduism than Buddhism, because I used to read Bhagavadh-Gita. To me, as Krishna was talking to Arjuna, it was like Christ talking to "the Christian".

I have no idea why anyone would want to debate anyone from another religion. I mean, unless your hobby is just to debate.
