Why did they do it?

I was afraid this thread was going to go on in a bad way with people throwing insults at one another...which was not tolerated at the King's Tavern and will also not be tolerated here.

However, all of you surprised me as you let the posts look like a regular conversation instead of what I feared it could turn into. So I thank you for that.

I would just ask that you keep it that way...civil.

Having a special ministry geared toward talking to people that grew up in a Catholic household is not the same thing as saying that "all Catholics go to Hell", although I can understand why you interpret it the way you do. The truth of it - and I'm not trying to offend anyone - is that Southern Baptists believe that Catholics are doctrinally wrong in some areas.

BTW, I'm sure that Southern Baptists ALSO have special ministries geared toward youth, single adults, single mothers, etc. Southern Baptists and our committees.... go figure.... LOL

I do hope you understand that statement is HIGHLY inflammatory to Catholics. We believe that the Church has been the guardian of the original Deposit of Faith from the Apostles.

I'm reminded of an argument I had with an overly-emotional, hormone-charged offspring in the height of puberty, who had the audacity to say to my face, "You don't understand what you said." Hey, if it came out of MY mouth, OF COURSE I understand what I said!

To Princejeff:

I've been searching for the SBC site I saw a few years back, and it's apparent that there's been a major revamping. That sounds like a cop-out, so I want you to know I'm still looking.

Yes, we understand you didn't mean to offend. And truthfully, neither did we. Too many times, though, Catholics have been beaten bloody with the Bible by Baptists who also are "telling the truth," as they see it.

Whereas, Catholics view Baptists as the Prodigal Son, who has yet to return home.

Odd to hear this in a thread where 'Southern Bigot Convention', and 'fundamentalist morons' are held in such high esteem.

Granted, VOW didn't utter these words, but a card carrying member of the RCC has uttered these words, without rebuke from his brethren.

While the RCC may think of the Baptists (or any Protestant denom) as the Prodigal Son, a Baptist might think of the RCC as the Older Brother that still gets a rebuke from the Father.

I do wonder where the Orthodox Church fits into this Parable...

at any rate, I've been called bigot and moron enough by Kirkland at my own board, it is very disappointing that he feels it his mission to bad mouth anyone that he disagrees with... not unexpected, but disappointing..

I couldnt agree more. He (in my opinion) disreguards everything but himself, but I dont count because I believe something differnt then he does; and he will turn on you if you also dont align w/ his ideas calling you names and hopeing for your death. I dont need to agree w/ everyone but we do need to respect everyone and show everyone a level of respect. Let the judged be judged by there actions. You dont talk about nonbelievers like this on the board so why do you rant on and on about something you have no intentions of helping change?

Lets hear about your actions to help change the SBC to a better listener of the word. Not your ideas but your actions. If you can not hold one conversation without slandering someone, noone will listen to you.

You want to have a conversation then have one. Adults dont need to use profanity's and namecalling to get a point thru. Look at yourselfs you no better then the chinese or tawianese congress. You disagree and start hurling mics adn shoes at eachother.
