Why do we need to have big debates about where we came from?Far more important is to know who we are and what we are to do. I don't believe in the creation story. I weighed up the evidence, and I think it's representing something which Science has shown to be true. But I may be wrong; God's great enough to have made us in the exact way decribed in the Bible.

My question is why are we so stuck debating this issue when there are far more important things to be discussed. For example how to integrate non Christians and allow them to feel wanted in our society. Promotion of racial equality, and rights for minority groups. Trying to understand that incredibly hard issue of homosexuality, and how we reach out to the gay person who feels God hates them because of who they are, and what some Christians have said to them. And most of all, discovering who we are and how we can best serve God.

Why are we Christians stuck back before the stone age?!!

I fully agree. I think as Christians, we ought to spend more time preaching "the good news to all creation." But you have societies like AiG, ICR, CRS, CMI, etc. that insist on converting people with the message of Genesis rather than the Gospels (AiG is especially guilty of this and has been chided by other creationists for saying so). I don't think we can go on ignoring them as though it's alright. I believe their theology is wrong -- even damaging -- and their science is certainly sub-par. Better to educate the populous than ignore the issue. Personally, the creation-evolution debate has been a blessing to me in that it has helped me to better support myself and strengthen my faith, in line with 1 Peter 3:15.

You will never convert anyone using an argument of creationism, seeing as it is based in Christianity itself, not science. There is no reason for an atheist to believe in the creation as told by the Bible.

Converting by moral standards; now we all have those to some extent; we have a common ground with the aetheist, and if we can convince them of our reasons, needs for morals, and our loving father, they can make up their own mind about something as arbitury as creation!

because when events like Dover happen I want to be able to articulate why it is possible to accept evolutionary theory and be a Christian.

this isn't just about where we come from; its about the very nature of how God reveals himself to man and what those revelations mean and how we are to react to the meanings of those revelations.

we are commissioned to be stewards of creation; poor are the servants who do not seek after the ways of their master.

It is a problem for Bible worshippers.

Translation: it is a problem for anyone who believes the Bible is the inspired word of God, not simply a collection of ramblings by men who claimed to be prophets which have been corrupted over the centuries. We do not worship the Bible! We simply respect it as the WRITTEN WORD OF GOD, which is "given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." (2 Timothy 3:16)
