  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Oh, it must be amazing to see the Aurora Borealis on a regular basis from Up There! There is a website run by an Alaskan who takes dynamite photos of A.B. Phenomena and posts the shots on his site. Next time I go there I'll bring the link back for you! Or, you could just look up A.B. on Google or some search engine and you'll find him. Awesome awesome stuff!!!

Just curious - are all Canadians beer connoisseurs or do you just come across that way on this website?!

Unfortunately I don't see them as often as I did when I was a kid, since I'm not as far north and live in the city... I miss them a ton. There was one summer when I was about...12(?) when there was unusually high activity and nearly every night the sky was full of red, blue, yellow, green, purple--you name it--and it was so gorgeous.

I made a promise to myself before I went to university lo those many years ago. I promised that if I ever acquired a taste for beer, I'd stop drinking it immediately because my taste buds would be untrustworthy from that point on.

I have an occasional beer at my sister's place; since my 19th birthday I think I've had a total of two cases worth of beer, usually Molson Canadian.

Now, as for hockey...that's another matter. Hockey is our national obsession, coming in just ahead of sex and complaining about America. Unfortunately, expansion and the New Jersey Devils combined to kill the sport's excitement and turn it into soccer on valium. When TSN's Play of the Week during hockey season is a golf shot, there is a serious problem.

The only entertainment I've gotten out of hockey in the last decade is watching the 2002 Olympic gold medal games (both of them), and the cluelessness of Maple Leaf fans who are the Brooklyn Dodgers fans of hockey.

In conclusion, GO HABS GO!

I agree Borealis, expansion is killing the sport...along with rich American team owners who 'buy all-star teams.' The 2002 Olympics were AWESOME. My friends and I all pulled for Canada (I got a lot of ribbing from co-workers when I wore my Team Canada jersey the day they played the US) lol!!

Another reason Canada rocks is all of the beautiful places to visit. BC is the closest thing to heaven that I've ever seen.

Wow, so much to say.

The photo is gorgeous... wish I had been there... gotta get further north soon.

Beer? Yes, you should meet my roommate.

Hockey? YES, and (sorry about the nationalism) it is nice to see the Canadian teams doing so well... except for Edmonton (Habs/Canucks final if you ask me).

Gold Medal Games? Totally agree. the best eight days of my hockey life were the week from GOLD to GOLD.

And, Hoosier Canuck, I used to live on the Island but haven't been back there in a while.

Peace.

Everyone knows about Canada and they love us.
It's true....we get preferential treatment over Americans sadly in most parts of the world.
And you can find any climate and landscape here from desert to rainforest and Rockies to expansive fields- some of us are lucky enough to have it all in our provinces!
oh and our hockey rocks :D
