  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why believe in that which one has no evidence toward?

It wasn't until I believed that I had evidence. The truth was apparent, that God always is and was and will be. I know Him because He lives in me.

One comes to Christ through faith in the unseen. Which is why it's faith. It's not blind though, because of the fact that I believed that Jesus died for my sins and the sins of the world and that He was raised from the dead.

Once you believe you know. I know that doesn't help a lot in answering your question, but I thought I would reply.

God bless you,
tapero

I was raised to believe and rejected it once I began to question religion for exactly this reason. Personal experience isn't tantamount to proof anymore than a Hindu or a Neo-Pagan's experiences are relevent depictions of "truth".

It is a matter of faith, a matter of the blindest faith. My question is why believe in anything without any proof. If you have the capacity to believe in whatever you wished and disregarded evidence, than your God and Zues are of equal validity.

You don't believe in Zues for the same reasons I don't believe in God.

Hi, I appreciate your thoughtful post.

I had no upbringing in religion. So I knew nothing of God. One day someone tried to kill me and after I was running away I screamed out God help me. Shortly after that I went to a funeral where the gospel was preached. Still, I didn't hear, but it led me to the church of the pastor who did the funeral. He led me to Christ, and the instant I believed, I knew it was truth. He only asked me 2 questions.

Did I commit my life to Christ? Would I die for Christ.

I knew nothing else really. It's how I came to Christ, but my experience to me is proof, because I know.

It know that doesn't give evidence. It's just not possible to I think. Well, I'm certainly not an apologist who can explain things well.

Take care, Tapero

No evidence you say. Well, since christianity is based on the Bible there are more evidence on it than anything in the world!

The Bible has more evidence that supports it intellectually than any book that exists. I strongly suggested you read Examine the Evidence by Muncaster(went from an athiest to a christian) and A Ready Defense and Evidence Demands A Verdict Vol I and II by Josh McDowell and "A Case for Faith by Lee Strobel (also went from an athiest to a christian).

They have done the research for us - its objective facts that supports the Bible. There is overwhelming evidence that is overflowing. So, for you to say there is "no evidence" is astounding.

The Bible is the evidence. To beleive that the Bible is evidence requires faith, something that all Christians must have, faith in God and his word.
I SECOND THAT! I could not agree more. AMEN

God said it, I believe it, that settles it for me. As "trite" as that sounds to the unbeliever it is so true for the believer.

I'd like to hear everyone's reasons.
Bible is great evidence. Also the HOly Spirit is evidence in my life, has given me a clean conscience and guided me so much, and has changed my life. I used to be very mean and nasty, been arrested several times, been to jail, stole a lot, etc. God changed me when I couldn't change myself, I asked doctors to help change me, and they didn't help me either. They gave me more drugs that didn't help and they were not personal enough in counseling to be of any help (which I did many times). The bible sends the Holy Spirit as counselor, and He has changed my life completely on the inside. I still have hard life, but I am not miserable on the inside anymore.

I have also seen Bible evidences, but I am not eloquent enough to discuss those, but I believe the Bible.

I have also looked into buddhism and Koran and others. They didn't clean my conscience of sin and give me an answer of sin and death. Jesus says I am the way. He gives definite answer. Islam says "maybe do this and that". other religions don't even make sense, also they don't have definite answers, maybe is not good enough. I do have death threats against me from son's dad, I take it seriously what is going to happen if I die. I have faith in God. That has taken away all fears. And even given me hope and love when I used to have none.

The earth and the air we breath is also proof. All life is proof

There have been many achologecal finds proving the existance of various places, events, people, and etc. mentioned in the bible. Plus the various fufiled prophesies in the bible, and etc. Evidence is all over the place, the question is will you accept it. the only reason folks don't see the evidence is because they simple won't believe it. Bottom line.

I'd like to hear everyone's reasons.

The question is against itself by starting off with a false assumption. There is plenty of evidence. In addition to fully supporting the answers given so far by others, I was recently reading a book with a quote from a 4th century leader of the Christian church when he was presented with almost the exact same question.

"...even though the sun shines and is everywhere present it is the easiest thing in the world for a man to shut out the rays of the sun and create darkness. All he has to do is close his eyelids and he is in complete darkness."

God is not absent from existance. To deny that reality is often called "apathy"...we simply aren't interested in having Him in our lives, so we ignore the obvious by simply closing our eyes.

Hmm, there is overwhelming evidence. That is why I will only believe what I do. It is an spiritual decision and then an intellectual one second. The Bible is the most true book in the world. There is overwhelming evidence to support it and is objective truth. Like the sun that comes up in the morning - its true no matter what are views are. So, I believe it more than anything in this world. Read Examine the Evidence by Muncaster who was an athiest but now a christian. And A Ready Defense by Josh McDowell. Also, there is An Case for Faith by Lee Strobel who was also an athiest at one time.

The Bible has hundreds of prophesies in it that has come true. The chance of just 48 prophesies coming true is one in a billion billion. A human can't do this! Only God can. And more incredible facts about it.

Faith! I pray you will come to find this before your very short time in this world is gone. Man trying to disprove or explain why the Lord's word is not real is like an ant trying to comprehend quantum physics.
I like that answer. May I quote you?
