• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Why are you here?

My main interest is to hear why non-Christians would join something called "Christian Forums".

Three reasons: To learn, to teach, and for fun.

To expand, first, I learn a lot about different beliefs, religions, and even get to correct my own knowledge and beliefs.

Second, hopefully someone will learn something from what I have to say; it may be a regular poster or it may be a person who finds the thread on a search engine.

Third, I enjoy debating and discussing these topics.

I am a Christian, but I think they join because they just want to learn. I enjoy seeing all of the points of views from everyone. There are so many Chrisitian from different religions, why not have none Christians as well.

Isn't that what a Christian is about, being open to everyone. I was thrilled to see this forum so open to everyone. That was one of the main reasons I joined.

1. It is a very large forum, so it is easy to get 'hooked', post something and as likely as not someone will respond within the hour.

2. It is easy to post here, frankly you can post any idea you have and you won't get half a dozen people with degrees ripping it apart, instead you get half a dozen lay people most of whom won't understand it. Also you can post on either side of the issue, either as a non Christian or as a Christian.

3. I like trying to express myself on different topics and posting here is very good practice.

4. I don't have much of a life, posting here is about as good as it gets.

5. Stress relief - passive input such as TV is not as good at engaging the mind and getting the nasty stuff going on at work out of it after work as posting here. I often finish work around 10PM and there isn't much happening here, but CF has a lot of contributors in the US so they finish work the same time as I do.

6. I used to try to discuss significant things down at the pub (bar), but people far preferred to stick to the rubbish that gets packaged as 'news', the things that matter just get ignored.

7. There are nasty people here so I try to keep out of the Christians only areas.

8. There are lots of people here and some are very knowledgeable. Janethebane comes to mind as does Chalnoth but there are others and AV1611VET on the other side of the fence also does some excellent posts.

9. Habit, it is really hard to stop, some people have requested temporary bans to get through their exams, get married or get successfully through other significant life events.

10. CF was a lot better when General Apologetics existed, but back then I spent too much time here, so that is one consolation. When I get a chance I'll look at the archives since there as been brilliant stuff written there and someone could easily compile a book or two or three from it.

I came to Christian Forums after reading through the Top 100 quotes on FSTDT one day and noticing that, at that time, many of the most ludicrous quotes were from CF members. I found it difficult to believe that the people who wrote some of them were actually serious so I came to CF to check.

Many of the quotes were from the now defunct General Apologetics forum so I began there and quickly found that the people who wrote the quotes did actually believe what they were saying. I was curious to know how and why they could believe such nonsense so I began asking questions.

In the course of asking questions, I found that if there was any way my questions could possibly be misconstrued, misinterpreted or generally evaded, they often were. As a consequence, I tried to improve the clarity and conciseness of my writing.

Improving my communication skills is an ongoing process, which is the main reason I persevere with Christian forums. There is the additional attraction of the entertainment it provides, but that is offset somewhat by the dismay at how some people actually think and behave.

Initially I think there is a natural desire to be heard in this world where politicians don't listen and the only chance to ever be in the news is by doing something bad. Here you can write posts, threads and I believe - blogs, and the posts and threads will be read by many people, and generally commented on.

But the fabulous aspect of a religious forum that it is OK to talk about important things. You can talk about anything here without seeming odd, even religion!

Almost any topic can be found somewhere: there's fitness, there's physical sciences, if you want to really unwind you can post on the other side in creation and evolution, a lot of people want to have their say in politics, I had some questions in history, and you can get your brain stretched, but only a little, in philosophy.

One of the things closest to the heart is how people treat you, so I guess I should get a bit more into ethics and morality.

You know one of the problems with modern suburban life is we aren't part of a community, the problems we face we have to face alone, so it is interesting to find that pretty well everyone else has the same problems.

Regarding the wonderful "openness" of the forum...

... once there was a sticky post, called "non-believers are...", pinned at the top of the most active sub-forum of this board, where exactly this recurring question of the OP was dealt with. Go on and look for this post, for the whole "general apologetics" forum... and then again state how "open" this forum is.

As for the OP: I came here because I wanted to ask questions about creationism. Hovind used to link to this forum as "his" debate board... long, long ago.

There doesn't actually appear to be any way of viewing any archives of what was on the GA forum. The Way-Back Machine isn't of much use on this either. Or am I just missing something?

No, you got it right. The whole of the old GA forum does no longer exist. They didn´t close it or remove it to the archives... they deleted it, completely.

CF caught my eye when I read some Creationist quotes posted here. They were hillarious but somehow shocking so I wanted to see first hand whether there are real people arguing like this. Turns out there are and they do but there are others, too. Interessting way of entertainment since in the end what could be more interessting than discussing with people who have an entirely different point of view.

That and of course what The Nihilist said.

I don't see how that could happen, General Apologetics was by far the best part of CF, I remember you did some excellent posts also Freodin

Some are butthurt atheist trolls. Some are cultural Christians or looking for Christian friends. As for me I'm a complete loser who needs to post on here because I have no friends IRL.

I don't really know why it's called Christian Forums if they have every religious belief under the God dam sun in this place. Either get rid of all the non-Christians or change the name to Christian and Other Beliefs Forums.

That was rude of me.

Because true Christians don't come here. The future is pre-ordained and posting in some silly computer somewhere isn't going to change it.
