There's loads of qualified centrist D's who make a good choice. I think of my CO Senator Bennet for example. She probably wont go too far left in this political environment.
I like this topic of discussion. I really do not have a solid opinion as to whom Kamala Harris might choose to be her running mate as VP if Joe Biden were to be removed as the Democratic Party nominee for POTUS in 2024. However, I still believe that the OP question is a very good and interesting question.

She could pick from outside her party?
John Kasich (former Ohio Governor) is center-right, and could be seen as an outrigger to counter the “far left” vibe Harris’ candidacy would likely be viewed as.

Such a unifying ticket, though, would likely be seen as an unknown unknown and cost the Democrats the WH.

John Kasich would be a very interesting choice. However, I believe that it would be highly unlikely for him to be chosen to be VP by the Democratic Party.

It would send a strong message that unity isn’t “just a campaign slogan”, that the parties are ready to put aside their differences and work toward the betterment of our nation rather than the bickering and fighting that continues to roll on out on social media.

Congress is where we are supposed to “fight” and “do battle”…doing such out of Congress is fun (and all) but doesn’t get needed laws passed. We need both Conservative Democrats and Liberal Republicans to (once again) be the bridge between party and ideology.

Obama tried that to some degree with keeping Bob Gates as SecDef and maybe a few others whom I'm forgetting. It didn't work out too well.

Too early, the GOP was set on Obama only getting one-term, now that Joe has chosen to quit the ‘24 race, Harris (or whomever) can pick a centrist Republican who’ll (likely) siphon off wishy-washy Trump voters.

Governor Kasich would make a great Republican candidate. I was hoping he would win the 2016 Republican nomination (which, alas, went to someone else). But it would be inappropriate for Harris to pick someone outside of her party to be her running mate. She is representing the Democratic Party in this election, after all.

I don't think you can assume Harris will be the Democratic nominee. And I think whoever is the Presidential nominee will pick who they find is the best choice (either someone that helped them win the nomination, someone they fell will help them win the election -- such as being from a swing state -- or who they feel they can best work with in a new administration).

Harris isn't the nominee. That will be settled in August. I'm sticking with Michelle with RFK. I think the pairing could beat Trump. Plus you get the first female president plus a Kennedy back in the white house. If they want to win that's the strongest duo.

I don’t see how you can pass over Harris without considerable fallout.

Michelle Obama? She has never held elected public office. Neither has Kennedy, to my knowledge (aside from a very brief time as assistant DA). President is not an entry-level job. There are many Democratic governors, members of Congress, and mayors to choose from, in addition to the obvious choice of the sitting vice-president. Let's choose one of them.

Easy, the only time she tried to get the Presidential nomination she was soundly defeated, getting so little support she didn't even survive until the primaries started. Just because she was the VP, and Biden endorsed her, does not make her the best nominee or one that a majority of Democrats want.

I'd suggest that First Lady is better training than what you think, especially since she'll have a "First Gentleman" who has a ton of experience who can advise her.

It’s going to anger a lot of the base if a black female (especially the 1st black female VP) is replaced

But we've had a precedent remember? And her husband was the president. If anyone knows the job he does. Trump wasn't qualified either but they chose him. His popularity is difficult to overcome for most.

That's why they'd give them Michelle as a substitute with a former president at her side.
