I will try :)

Pilate in the verse befor essays, I have the power to crucify you, an yet you won't talk to me. Jesus then agrees and says yeah you have the power to do this but only because it was given by God. He then says therefore the person who handed me over to you has committed an even greater sin.

I change my vote for Caiaphas and the Jews, since they handed Jesus over. They used the powers given to them by God to turn Jesus over to Rome in malice and obvious injustice, and therefore abused what we see in Romans 13:1-2.

I originally thought Judas because he was the first to betray Jesus, but it was the high priest that would have been the one finally responsisble for handing Jesus over to the Romans.

How dat?

Anyone know Greek? The word "he" or "the one" is implied by the greek, probably from the verb delivered. Is it possible for the verb to imply a plural or must it be a singular pronoun?

This just came to mind and thought I would toss it out there...

Wouldn't the High Priest be the person who 'charged' Jesus with what they referred to as blasphemey? If so, then would that better explain " 'the one' who handed me over to you has the greater sin?" That seems more in line with what Uncle Bud is saying, also.

I think these were lesser in stature of the sin because they all rejected or were ignorant of Jesus' teachings. Judas doubted, at least, and rejected, at most, Jesus' teachings, but acted as one of His brethren to betray Him. This is the greatest sin of any of them and IMO is the one described here.

My vote goes to the high priest and the sanhedrin. Judas sinned, but the Jewish leaders knew Jesus was innocent and still sought His death. Now, that is a real sin...

IMHO, that's a good point. When Judas betrayed Him, He wasn't actually charged until after the High Priest asked Him if he was the Son of God?

I'm still open to reasons as to why it was Judas and not the High Priest. For some reason this thread has really fascinated me.

So who is "the one"?

What did Jesus mean when he said "the one" when there was such a long chain of people who handed him over to Pilate. I mean, you could throw Herod into the chain, too, because Jesus was sent to him and then he handed him back to Pilate.

To whom was Jesus refering when he said, "the one"?

There's one more to consider, and he might just be "the" one Jesus was actually referring to. Yes, I mean satan. The devil might have wanted to "kill" Jesus in order to "defeat" or conquer Him AND His Father. How hard would it have been for the greatest deceiver ever created to deceive Judas into believing what he was doing was the right thing? Or to convince the priests into falsely condemning Jesus, out of their "envy"? How hard would it have been for satan to control a pagan such as Pilot? Or Herod, for that matter?

And, who would have more to gain if Jesus was "killed"? And after extensive public humiliation, too!

Could satan be the "one"? Hey, it's just a thought....

That's the one I was thinking of. Satan entered Judas before he betrayed Christ. Jesus said the Jewish leaders were of their father satan. Herod proved by his immorality that he was in satan's hands. Satan was the one that ultimately handed Christ over to Pilate because he had control over every person in the chain.
