About the talks of not allowing debate in the main forum. I think we could decide on a good description of what is meant by debate, could we not? Although I do not think this is the thread to be discussing it in.
Also, the main forum is for fellowship too..right? So friendly discussion is also allowed, beyond the questions? Like David's thread about the squirrels. Or did I misunderstand this?
You could always apply later if you decided that it wouldn't work out for you now.Actually, just curious..But if I do decide to decline this, would it be possible to become a mod a little later on? I want you guys to know that if I decline it's still something I'd like to do in the future.
One note, I accepted with the understanding that I can only give my undivided attention when I am not at work (9-5) and of course Sabbath I set aside, when I feel I should only 'mod' to help a brother or sister that has fallen into a 'deep hole' to help them out.....This leads me to a importan point, we need to set up a quiet time in the debate forum so moderators can also have rest from their labors if posible, coparable to a Adentist nurse or doctor not working if possible on the Sabbath.
As a alternate moderator in case we cannot reach Jim or David declines I would like to nominate jon0388g. He is young but has a keen mind and mature in his presentations and manner.
The proposal allows for the round earth and the internet, it asks for "Quiet Time from sundown friday to sundown saturday in each timezone",so if it is still Sabbath in California they can still continue debating but with the knowledge that some moderators have begun the Sabbath in the east coast and may not be responding till Sabbath is over in their timezone. I handle clients from around the globe, but we are not 24/7 and we let them know and rarely have a problem, and come Monday we read their email or other communication and get back to them.
I used to work with Russian and other European programmers and we would send our test results then wait 24 hours for them to call us and discuss it. If it was urgent and we had to ship, we woke them up in the middle of the night, and lets just say you dont want to wake up a disgruntled Russian at any time of the night......
How is the any different from what is happening now. Everybody knows that the moderators can only moderate when they are online, Sabbath or not? The rule is superfluous.
Come on Trust. I am allowed to express my opinion on the matter, aren't I? I am not trying to justify anything Ice has done, merely sharing what I see in the situation. I have even pointed out where I thought Ice dropped the ball.
I am not trying to change your vote. If you feel you have valid reason for it, that's fine.
In all fairness to Mankin, he did not know that the vote to not split the forum had already been decided. I don't see that he was trying to agitate division.
And Ice, I also wanted a split forum, so it wasn't just a 15 year old pushing for it.
Is this merely telling someone that their poll is invalid?

again there is a context. and you are missing it. He cause 5 days of fighting. He is the cause. Not me. that is what it is addressing. He wants to change the function of the forum. That is a BIG deal and not something to be put in a poll with out consent of the forum. As far as Mankin goes. Maybe the way I said it appears to harsh. it was not my intent. I am sorry for the way it came across.Telling someone to sit down and be quiet is telling them their poll is invalid HOW?
if i don't think it is wrong do I have to apoligize. Here is an example of encouraging fighting (since you asked):
You didn't rephrase it until someone called you on it.
Actually I'm just as upset with Wooba for pushing that this forum not split so we could get stricter rules in here, and where is he now that it's time to MAKE those stricter rules?
Exactly. Where is he?
Woob is confused. First he was hell-bent on a split forum and then he was leading the charge for blended forums. Now that the vote goes by a landslide for blended, these masses are nowhere to be found.
Yes, fellowship would be allowed.
You could always apply later if you decided that it wouldn't work out for you now.
LOL. *Pats your head* Just breathe.Yeah, that's right. The vote was still up in the air. Mankin just jumped the gun.
It's impossible to recall anything in the slew of confrontations that have transpired here lately. I can't keep anything straight concerning who said what, when, what was happening at the time, what was the response, GAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!! :o
the probem and issue I had with the split forum was that we had just finished not 8 hours earlier to have a unified forum and some has the nerve to undo the whole thing on a whim. I thought it was unfair a little arrogant and very immature. the rule making process must be respected and it was not being respectedCome on Trust. If you hung around here more, you'd know Mankin's poll came after Sophia's poll on whether or not this forum should split.

Where are most of those people that voted for that option actually?
Exactly. Where is he?

Just to clarify one thing (because I was away for a while when all of the discussions were going on about my involvement in that poll), I started the poll regarding a forum split as a result of a conversation with Letalis. It had come to his attention and to Erwin's that several SDA members were in favor of a split. He wanted to know if that was really necessary. He also told us that we as a forum needed to make the decision about whether to split, and he said that the administration would honor our decision.
Because Woob rethought the options in the poll that he had started and asked us to close it and start a new poll, I did. Due to the concerns of Erwin and Letalis, we believed that the question should be addressed right away before continuing with the creation of forum-specific rules. There would have been no point in making new rules for the whole forum if the majority wanted to split and have each forum make its own rules.
Thus, the accusations that some have made that the poll was invalid are unfounded. It was an issue that needed to be addressed before we could continue making rules, and we had Letalis' approval to decide the question in this manner.
that is what it looked like mankin was doing. That is why I wrote the harsh sounding post.Who has that kind of clout?

ROFL! @ six feet tall.If I remember correctly, and my brain probably doesn't (thanks for the comforting pat BTW Crimson), Mankin didn't know the poll for the split was already underway. So he, out of curiosity sake, started his own poll to see who was going where so he could decide which forum he wanted to frequent.
Let us bear in mind that if this were a physical, real-life encounter, that we would probably be more careful of how we speak to this young man. He is, after all, six feet tall.
I think Ice is under the impresson that Mankin came up with the idea and made a poll about it on his own.
Which is understandable because Ice was busy trying to get a Sabbath Observer forum started....I'm sure that took a lot of time.
So just to clarify, the Admin was contacted about splitting (NOT by Mankin) and a poll was started to see if we would split. At the time Mankin made HIS poll, the votes in the other poll (started before his) were in FAVOR of splitting, but that changed later.
Mankin isn't a bad guy here, and I wondered why Ice went off on him like that, but now I think I see why.
That doesn't change the fact that Mankin is probably very hurt at being told to sit down and be quiet.
Trust can I ask why you are so upset by this? you don't seem to this upset when people are mistreating me? The fact that I am running does not correspond with your anger. There are other that have been nominated that have been more direct then I have been. Why are you taking this so personally. If mankin has a problem with me then why did he not contact. why a 3rd party. that is not biblical.I think Ice is under the impresson that Mankin came up with the idea and made a poll about it on his own.

As far as the poll, He should not have started it.
