There was a large population of Gentiles in Galilee. They would have been the herders of pigs. I guess Jesus used the pigs as the possessed men asked him to. Jesus had no problem with this as God owns everything. The town's people begged him to leave because they were afraid their pigs would end up in the sea too.In Matthew 8, who owned the pigs?
Wouldn't they have been private property? Someone's livelihood?
What about the property rights of the pig owners?
How is damaging someone's property sinless?
Mat 8:34 So everyone from the town went out to meet Jesus; and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their territory.
No wonder.
God owns everything.
Considering that he freed a demon possessed individual of torments & the local community he terrorized, He deemed it right to do so. There is probably more theological significance in the fact that the pig was unclean in the sight of the Jews.
It probably didn't actually happen but was written to convey a deeper meaning.
