  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I had a friend who had a rat...just loved her so much. When my guinea pig died, she tried to convince me to get one since they were so personable.

The rabbit I'm pet-sitting chews non-stop. I think it's their nature, especially since they need to gnaw on stuff to keep their teeth in shape. Maybe if you had a wide variety or things for them to chew on that was ok (you know, paper tube rolls, wood blocks, mineral wheels...different textures and stuff) they wouldn't have such a tendancy to chew on your things. But who knows...my guinea pig had a ton of stuff and still preferred one particular corner of my desk...

yes, the make AMAZING pets!!! Honestly, they're just wonderful. They're smart, cool, cuddly, sweet, smart, and so much fun!! And they each have their own awesome personalities.

I have three rats (have had nine) and I'm crazy about them!!
I only have chewing problems with one of my girls...her name is Notti, ironically. She chewed a hole in 2 couches and my comforter...not too good. But she's worth it. lol :) :) I really am rat-crazy

Apparently the "chewing" is a female thing for some reason. I like the females, but they are more likely to get tumors.:( So we tend to have more males as pets.

I didn't know that! How do you train them? Like you would a puppy?
You get them when they are babies and make them get use to you. Food, patience and love will help with the process, but make sure they know their little names. Keep calling them and playing with them. You will need to have a lot of patience with them, but when you buy one, get one from a good breeder, especially if they handle the babies from early age. The more contact with people the better. There should be websites that have how to train your rat. Just remember to keep wires and other appliances away from them as they can be very cheeky and have a tendency to be naughty. They all have their own little personalities as well and are quite funny, which makes it worth while in the end.

we have a few rat owners that come in for health visits and my smiles grow with the love owners have for these guys. they have short lives but are worth the time one puts into them.

Rats are like dogs, you can train them and get them to come to you. It's cute the way they groom themselves.:)

Of all the pets that I have had or have now (including cats, dogs, ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, frogs, goats and pigs) rats are by far my favourite.

For such little things they pack a lot of personality and intelligence.

Here's a shot of our pet rat Butter playing dentist with my son:

Sadly, little ratties do not grace us with their lives for so long, and now all of ours have passed.
