I love St Paul because he was a murderer and the worst persecutor of Christians when he was Saul and yet God forgave him and PURSUED him.
and he wrote two-thirds of the New Testament!
I believe the Bible tells us which apostles were the most intimate to Jesus of the twelve.
In
Matthew 10:2-5,
Mark 3:16-19,
Luke 6:14-16,
Acts 1:13, we see three remarkable similarities
1) The disciples were divided into three groups. The first group was led by Peter, the second by Phillip and the third by James of Alphaeus. Even though the disciples are named in different orders within their groups, leaders are always the same, Peter, Phillip and James of Alphaeus.
2) In all four lists, Peter is always the first.
3) Peter, his brother Andrew, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother are in the first group.
It is Peter who walked on water toward Jesus (Mt 14:29), asked how often he must forgive (Mt 18:21), asked Jesus to explain the parable (Mt 15:15).
It is Peter who first confessed Jesus and declared Him as the Son of the Living God (Mt 16:13-20).
Peter boldly defied the Sanhedrin (Acts 4:22). He was a man of strong character, a born leader, enthusiastic and brave.
Peter, James the son of Zebedee and his brother John were the most intimate of all. They appeared three times "alone with Jesus" in the NT. They were at the Mount of Transfiguration (Mt. 17:1), in the Garden of Gethsemane (Mt 26:37) and saw Jairus' daughter raised to life (Mk 5-37)
