I'm not really sure where to put this - but this looks like the best place to me.

Here I am at the height of my career - I love my job - do well at it - and all of a sudden I have been called to the ministry by the Lord!

I have no formal training in the ministry - but I'm going to start some "distance learning" and "on-line" courses through the Moody Bible Institute soon.

I am curious to know if there are any others around here in my position -having to balance between preparing for full-time ministry, raising a family, and continuing on in your current career.

I thought it would be encouraging and uplifting to meet someone like myself and share experiences and thoughts in this (rather precarious) predicament.

God bless.....

I'm sorta in the same boat. I am already a Pastor, however I have not Seminary Training. I started as the youth pastor of the church I'm in now. When our pastor resigned, the church voted me the pastor. Anyway, I am trying to get through seminary, be the pastor of a church, Teach full time in a Christian School, and raise three kids along with spending time with my wife. One thing you learn quickly is to prioritize your time. I make a big deal that my days off or my days; no church business! They are times to spend with my family. Make sure you set this priority first of you family coming before the church. The number one reason P.K.s leave the church is their fathers are too busy with the church to really care about them.

May the Lord bless you in your pursuit.

I can absolutly relate to what you are going through. I was called and i had a family, a good job, etc. Seminary training is very important...but so is on hands learning and doing.

Thanks for the replies guys - ccunning - you bring up some very valid points - I'm aware of the dangers you mentioned - but its always good to hear from some one who has been "there" and having to deal with them already. Would appreciate your prayers fellas - I'll be in touch...
