Are we even real people anymore? Is this real life? Are we actually alive? My wife and I had the TV on in the background while we were working on putting together some new furniture. A good ole American pharmaceutical advertisement came up when it was on commercials. I have no idea what the medication was, but we both heard it say that you can get a parasitic infection while taking the medication. We both reacted to it at the same time. So appalling. "Take our pill. May or may not get brain eating worms." What??!!

How does that even work? Does it attract worms? odd
I mean, the actual quote wasn't "may or may not get brain eating worms." I'm just dramatic. But it described the possibility of getting a parasitic infection while taking the medication and to contact your doctor if you have those symptoms. Just the most bizarre side effect I've ever heard. Usually it's just about the totally normal and totally not horrific heart attack and stroke side effects.

Neti Pot perhaps? People died from that because they used contaminated water in that had brain eating bacteria.

I used to use it on a daily basis....now, I'm scared to death.

No, I don't think I've seen a commercial for that. At least not in more years than my pea brain is capable of remembering.

You can use them safely though. Those brain eating bacteria cases are from tap water that hasn't been boiled. It's perfectly safe with distilled water, like from water bottles or jugs. Boiled tap water is fine too but an unnecessary risk in my estimation.

Yup. I always used boiled water or distilled water when using them. I've had Eustachian tube Dysfunction due to allergies for 17+ years so my ears feel constantly full/clogged. I tried clearing my sinuses from mucus to help relieve them. Not much luck, unfortunately.

Medications like prednisone that cause long-term immunosuppression may increase the risk of parasitic infections.

Prednisone is a steroid that treats many conditions such as asthma, allergic reactions, arthritis, inflammatory bowel diseases, adrenal, and blood or bone marrow disorders.

The ad may have been for something else, but it was probably one that causes immunosuppression. Which is a condition where the body's immune system is weakened, making it harder to fight disease and infection.

I got all of that from AI Overview.

I see those ads for various medications all the time. Sometimes the side effects are worse than the condition.

And why would I "ask my doctor about" Drug XYZ? I don't know the first thing about medication---that's what I have the doctor for. I'm going to assume that he knows more about what medication is better for me than the people advertising their drug to laypeople on the television set. Don't hawk it to me; hawk it to my doctor.

Okay was that ad lib about brain eating parasites?

The treatment for a parasite infection depends on the type of parasite involved. Most infections can be treated with medications called antiparasitics. In some cases, surgery or other interventions may be necessary.

Has the idiocy of political discourse made your life miserable over the last ten, twelve, or even fifteen years? You may have a parasitic infection caused by career politicians. These parasites can rob you of contentment, security, and a sense of financial well-being.

If you think you may have a parasitic politician problem, ask your provider about Chokemoff® (Impeechemol) and if it may be right for you.

Chokemoff® is specifically geared for stubborn infections of careerism, corruption, greed, and disingenuation from elected officials, which can invade the stability of everyday life, and may become worse over time.

Studies have shown that judicious applications of Chokemoff® over time can greatly reduce, and possibly eliminate, these problems. Side effects of Chokemoff® may include lower prices, increased national production, reduced tax rates, and a greater supply of freedom from restrictive regulation and unreasonable punishment.

Chokemoff® is not for everyone. You should not take Chokemoff® if you are a liberal, progressive, communist, feminist, or socialist; or if you have any history of involvement with BLM, Antifa, ISIS, Hezbollah, GLAAD, Rainbow Coalition, the ACLU, or the Southern Poverty Law Center. Do not take Chokemoff® if you are a transgender or may become transgender.

Users report immediate improvement after just a few applications over a period of one or two election cycles, with a vastly reduced instance of parasitic political infection in all segments of society.

Consult with your provider and take charge of your life with Chokemoff® today!

OH MY GOSH!

I was given that drug after I had a very bad reaction to a medication my kidney specialist gave me a few years ago.

No wonder that name sounds so familiar.

A lot of possible side effects are just a maybe or very rare. One thing to do is look up how many people on the drug developed a parasite? 1 out of every 100k? Plus you have to actually be in a situation where parasites are an issue in the first place. Like stay away from back ally sushi bars.

A pill I'm taking can cause kidney failure. And I have to go in for yearly blood tests to check my kidney function. But kidney failure is rare for those taking it. Also the hypertension it's controlling is more likely to cause kidney failure.

Yeah, I'm on three different pills for kidney disease/hypertension.

I have been prescribed two 5mg prednisone tablets daily along with some other medications for my prostate cancer. I read the cutsheet thoroughly and found a baffling side effect: Inappropriate Happiness

I asked my Doctor, and he had never seen it nor could he define it. How can happiness be inappropriate?

Well.....I suppose if you were capering around on the promenade deck of the Titanic as it was slowly slipping under the waves, grinning and singing and asking people, "Isn't it just a lovely, wonderful night tonight?", that might be considered inappropriate. :)

A "side effect of inappropriate happiness" could refer to experiencing excessive or unfitting joy in situations where it's not socially appropriate, often linked to a disconnect from reality, which could be caused by factors like medication side effects (like certain steroids), mental health conditions, or a serious life event causing a temporary emotional disruption; essentially, feeling overly happy when you should be feeling sadness or concern.
