I have no idea. It is one of those things. Unless someone has an answer from scripture or a valid logical answer I think this will be a mystery until that Day when we can ask Noah himself.

The most likely answer is that they ate a vegitarian diet supplemented with dried meat.

Prior to the Flood the diet was strictly fruits and vegetables:

"I have provided all kinds of grain and all kinds of fruit for you to eat; but for all the wild animals and for all the birds I have provided grass and leafy plants for food”—and it was done."
Genesis 1:29‭-‬30 GNTD

After the Flood the diet changes:

"God blessed Noah and his sons and said, “Have many children, so that your descendants will live all over the earth. All the animals, birds, and fish will live in fear of you. They are all placed under your power. Now you can eat them, as well as green plants; I give them all to you for food. The one thing you must not eat is meat with blood still in it; I forbid this because the life is in the blood."

And we must keep in mind that the duration of the Flood only lasted 1 Year and, God made sure that the food on the boat was adequate enough for everyone. The land and flying creatures would be the only ones to board while the swimming ones stayed in the water, and it would seem that all excess creatures would simply die in the Flood...which would help explain the fossil record.

The water of Rain can be drinked. Maybe all the animals and the 8 members of Noah's family can survive only by drinking. The water has huge energy. The Element(元素) H can be a kind of material(材料) of Nuclear energy.

I really should have made a voting aspect to this thread, so that people can vote on which one they like best. I suppose everyone that reads the comments could "like" the one they vote for, and that way we can see who has the best answer so far.

I like the angles that people have come up with to explain how the carnivorous animals were fed.

I was going to cite the same passage as Humble Penny as it pertains to the original vegetarian prescribed diet, then point out how much more nutritious the food was back then, subsequently one might not receive an appetite to eat something (for a day or two) after a single feeding.

The clumps of Seven, were likely two young adults with nursing cubs, etc., in this case only Two of the Seven would need to be fed, babies don't take up a whole lot of space, neither do they pose a threat to other animals.

My answer is sort of along the lines of Penney and Laureate. We get the idea of animals going into the ark 2X2 as adults from simple paintings we saw in Sunday School. They were of course wrong in so many ways.

Who says they were any adults? Very young animals would be easier to feed and clean up after. Eggs easier still! And I agree the diet was plant based for all before the flood, except probably the Nephilim.

Still, a lot of work. I always think back on Bill Cosby's account of Noah's story: "Have you looked in the bottom of that boat? Who's gonna clean up that mess?" (paraphrased from ancient memory).
