Hi,

So George W Bush Jnr is on a talk show some time in connection with his presidency and they ask him "Which philosopher do you most admire?" and he simply answers:

"Christ".

Now, I don't know about you, but when I think of what inspires of my interest in philosophy (and let's face it, philosophy is never more than an interest in philosophy) the last thing I think of is "Christ", but when I think of what inspires my interest in other ideas besides philosophy, my first thought is "Christ". So what's going on here? Or more importantly, what inspires you?

What philosophical concept have you come across, that most inspires thoughts about other philosophical concepts? What gets you outside the box the quickest? Is it the matrix? Is it Zeno's paradox? Some combination of the two? How exactly do you get philosophical momentum, if there is such a thing? And is "Christ" a philosopher? Or is that cheating?

Like if I say "What's in the box?" and you say "Something Christ knows" are you playing the game or are you playing with me?

Really, you aren't just interested in "one" philosophical idea, are you? Doesn't anything relate them, one to another? And if something relates one philosophical idea to another, is it really philosophical?^_^

Thanks.

Jesus Christ wasn't a philosopher. But we can put that aside.

What philosophical concept have you come across, that most inspires thoughts about other philosophical concepts?

It isn't any single concept. I am attracted to philosophical systems, which may of course inspire me about other philosophical concepts.

I suppose that it is Ayn Rand that inspires me the most, though David Norton is also an inspiration.

I suppose that I am inspired by ethical systems that are naturalistic.

I'm not really sure how to answer, since I'm not totally sure what the question is.

I got into philosophy because I was into Christianity, and using reason to understand and promote Christianity. I think the first philosopher I read was Descartes, and his argument that involved 'I think therefore I am'.

The philosophical problem that best expresses my interests would probably be the Euthyphro dilemma. I'm mostly interesting in God, morality, and philosophy of law.

I quite like J.S.Mill's 'On Liberty', though I don't consider myself a utilitarian.

I think it is the concept of integration. That knowledge must all fit together as a whole as the world does. Knowledge is not a hodge podge of ideas but a consistent whole. If one thinks they have found a contradiction then there is an error in one's thinking and it is the job of thinkers to root out all contradictions. With each new concept one should be able to spiral back to earlier ones and see the connections. It is a shame because I was never taught this in school, college or especially in Church. I learned it much later in life. I think the world would be a much different and better place if we were all taught this from an early age instead of "wishing makes it so".
