  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Which is easier?

Ok, so I have decided that I want to learn to knit and crochet and I am trying to decide which on e to start with. For those of you that do both....which one is easier? I heard that it just depends on which one you learn first and that which ever one you learn second usually seems harder... Any opinions would be appreciated.

p.s. also, do you know of any good books/programs to learn either of these ? I saw a couple books at the store the other day, but I just want to know which ones you learned from or like the best. :)

Try Loom Knitting. I love it! It is much easier than crocheting, although, I want to learn how to regular knit one of these days. I am telling you. It is so much fun and so easy to learn. I just started in February and now I actually teach a class.

I was told by someone who knits and crochets to learn to crochet first. I have knitting stuff but have never really invested time in getting decent at it. I think crochet is a bit easier because you're only dealing with a hook and not two needles, plus you use some crochet stitches in knitting sometimes. I guess it also depends on what you want to make. I think sweaters and clothing and such looks better knitted but blankets and things like that are easier to do with crochet.

I just found a book at the library and taught myself from pictures for crochet. I got a book that the title would be censored here for knitting that I thought was easy to understand, cheap, and had some neat projects. It really depends on how you learn best as to what would be best for you.

I've dabbled in both and find them about equal in terms of difficulty. My recommendation is to choose a project that totally inspires you, and learn whichever technique is used for that project. I find I stay interested if I pick a project I LOVE rather than worrying about what technique will be required.

Good luck and have fun!!!
