pjw said:that is taking the verse completely out of context. what they are stating is that Gentiles have become Christians, are they bound to keep the ceremonial law? of course not. however, to avoid offending the Jewish Christians, and Gentile proselytes who have become Christians, who hear the law of Moses in the synagogue every Sabbath, we will command them to keep such and such laws.
BrightCandle said:The significance of how few references there are to Sunday worship in the NT, is that proponents of Sunday worship try to convince people that the disciples and the apostles were worshipping on Sunday ever since the resurrection of Jesus. But, what do we see in the NT? Just the opposite! The disciples kept the Sabbath while Jesus rested in the tomb on the Sabbath, and they continued to keep it well into the first century. If there was a change it came gradually, not based on any command from God, but based on "the traditions of men".
BrightCandle said:Why is there none to keep Saturday? In fact Jesus is accused of breaking it, and uses the illustration of David breaking it too!Normann said:Here is the real question: Why is there no command from Jesus or the Apostles to keep Sunday in the NT?
See the site I cited that deals with 'issues' of import.BrightCandle said:The reason that the Sabbath was not mentioned in some of the summaries of the commandments in the NT, is that it was non-issue. No one kept Sunday as a Sabbath early early in the first century. Yes, there was a celebration of the resurrection on Sunday that did develop later on, but it was not based on a commandment of Jesus or the Apostles. And it did not fully displace the Sabbath until many centuries later. In fact the Eastern Church kept the Sabbath up till the 5th century, but gave it up under pressure from western Roman church.

"x" ammount of mentions
THEN
leap to conclusion
As noted, you must now accept the Pope, because Catholics show that Peter is mentioned more times than any other Apostle!
(of course you're not willing to make a massive leap, based on the same type of argument). You need more than stats.

if Jesus was accused to breaking the Sabbath what was his reply? Maybe we can learn something there

The command to keep the Sabbath was in the Bible that Jesus and the disciples read from, the OT, and it was found in Exodus 20.
Jesus and David did not break the Sabbath, they were just accused of breaking it by those who didn't understand what true Sabbath worship was all about.
The example of Jesus faithfully keeping the Sabbath his whole life, and even keeping it in tomb speaks louder than words. Additionally, his disciples kept it as well as recorded in the Gospels even after his death and resurrection. As I said in an earlier post, the Sabbath verse Sunday issue was a non-issue in their time, because the only type of weekly Sunday worship that existed in the time of Christ in the first century was pagan Sun worship, and only type of weekly Christian worship that existed then was Sabbath worship on the 7th day.

NOBODY changed the Sabbath to Sunday. We worship our LORD on Sunday as a group. We worship our LORD everyday for that matter. We are in the NEW COVENANT, not the OLD. JESUS IS OUR SABBATH REST, we no longer need to REST on the 7th day..hes the 8th day!

Sunday of Great and Holy Pascha is the Mystical Eighth day, the first day of the new Creation. The old Creation, and the Sabbath that commemorated it, has passed away. The old things have passed away, all things are made new !! We now commemorate the Resurrection of our Lord and the new life and Creation, not the oldThe purpose of the Jews and their ritual laws has been fulfilled, culminating in the birth of the most Holy Theotokos, and from her flesh, our Saviour.
Which version of the Bible did they use?BrightCandle said:The command to keep the Sabbath was in the Bible that Jesus and the disciples read from, the OT, and it was found in Exodus 20.
Which is?BrightCandle said:Jesus and David did not break the Sabbath, they were just accused of breaking it by those who didn't understand what true Sabbath worship was all about.
BrightCandle said:Where in the Bible does it say that the Sabbath is the 8th day? Nowhere.
The number 7 symbolizes perfection, 1 and 8 don't cut it.
And for your information, the Roman Catholic Church admits that they changed the Sabbath to Sunday. Check it out for yourself.
Here's some more!karenmarie said:really? wonder why the jews circumcised their babies on the 8th day after birth? wonder why there were 8 people on the ark? wonder why David was the 8th son of Jesse? is this all COINCIDENCE?
heres some scripture for ya..
these are Jews and Gentile proselytes to Judaism, not Christians. while some of these, when converted to Christ, may have continued in the synagogue for the sake of hearing the Old Testament preached, there were others who heard the Gospel in Paul's preaching elsewhere, and would not have been familiar with Judaic laws.Note, when were the Gentile Christians going to church? On the Sabbath, and not on Sunday.

Cliff2 said:Just from memory I think the Sabbath is mentioned about 70 times in the New Testament...............
............But if we look we can see that it is mentioned as I said about 70 times.
I am yet to see a text that tells me that there is a change.

Normann said:Hey Cliff,
I have yet to see a text in the N.T. that tells us to keep Saturday as the Sabbath!
The word Sabbath is in the N. T. but the command to keep it is not there even once.
The word law is in the N. T. over 100 times, do you keep th law?
The word tongues and tongue is in the N. T. over 40 times, do you speak in tongues?
The word prophecy, prophets and prophet is in the N. T. over 150 times, do you prophecy?
Simply because a word that happens to be in the N. T. does not constitute a N. T. Law.

Normann
