  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hard list to choose from. I consider all of those to be epic fails. If I had to choose, I would pick McGuire/Parker. I love Spiderman comics, but I hate what the producers/writers did with the McGuire as Parker triology.

Tobey Maguire gave Peter Parker a huge creep factor, I couldn't stand this Peter Parker especially in the 3rd movie once being corrupted by the venom symbiote. I always felt James Franco would have made a better Peter Parker, just put him in some glasses with abit of a geeky demeanor cum swashbuckling wisecrackin Spidey! Very miscast!

I agree, it is impossible to choose from these atrocious cinematic adaptations but I gave any participant a choice of three.

I don't want the likes of the Green Hornet, Deadpool, and Mandarin completely reinvented from their original book source. All of these would be awesome if kept faithful to the source material.

Deadpool is an enormously popular character will be getting his own film due for release in February 2016 with Ryan Reynolds returning to the role. But if you are familiar with character at all, he is not handsome and goodlooking as in the photo below suggests:

What is up with Ryan Reynolds and these comic book roles... Hannibal King, Green Lantern, and Deadpool?

After seeing Deadpool in Hulk vs Wolverine I was thinking who would be the better star for the non-animated version of Deadpool. I think Andrew Garfield would be a perfect fit. But...alas he is Spiderman.

As far as Bane is concerned...with that voice he sounded like a steroid pumped mickey mouse. Hardly intimidating. But..then again I am probably one of the few viewers who dosn't like Christian Bale as Batman (just not dark and moody enough).

I think Andrew Garfield is abit small for Deadpool even for Spider-Man, how about Ryan Gosling? Or Vincent Cassel? Or someone of a similar physique?

According to Tom Hardy, he based his voice for Bane on Bartley Gorman (1944 - 2002), an Irish Traveller who was the undefeated Bare-knuckle boxing champion of the United Kingdom: "The choice of the accent is actually a man called Bartley Gorman, who was a bare knuckle fighter, a Romani gypsy. So I wanted to underpin the Latin, but a Romani Latin opposed to Latino."

The lines of dialogue Bane spewed off in the movie were too cheesy to be taken seriously. Instead of creating suspense and anticipation they served up involuntary cringes and twitches.

You should have swapped the DKR Bane for the Batman and Robin, Bane. He was basically the hulk in a wrestler mask in that movie. In fact everyone in that film except Alfred was butchered.

Besides stealing and wearing a cat costume, the 2004 Catwoman had nothing to do with the Batman universe. Her name wasn't even Selina Kyle so I don't consider it a butchering... just some imposter Catwoman.

I liked Tobey McGuire as Peter Parker but he was too emo. Spiderman is supposed to have a sense of humor and be always be making (bad) jokes, usually toward his enemies. The Andrew Garfield Spiderman was much closer to the true Spiderman in the comics.

You are right, the three Joel Schumacher Batman abortive efforts are heinous. But these are so bad, most people just like to sweep them under a old moldy rug and forget about them. I guess I wanted to include the DKR Bane because it has such higher expectations and greater potential.

I always felt James Franco would have made a much better Peter Parker & Spider-Man, especially since the actor has alot of experience in comedy, so he was thoroughly equipped for the demands of a Spider-Man role and its sense of humour, wisecracking, and bad jokes. There is even stunning resemblance between Peter Parker and James Franco. Tobey McGuire was too homely and wooden even for Raimi's ham-handed Peter Parker. What a disasterous misfire in this miscasting in the Sam Raimi trilogy.

With the onslaught of comic book movies this year has brought out the geek in me.

Whom do you choose?

The poll thread only allows 10 choices!
A tip if I may: polls should ALWAYS have an "other" choice for those you didn't/can't cover. :)

Anyway, Peter Parker easily. McGuire was a horrid choice. Maybe he would've been OK as a "prologue" bit as the gawky teen, but Parker quickly looked and acted very adult in the comic book. You need someone with Tom Cruise-type looks and an almost Robin Williams-type banter (OK maybe not quit that manic lol). Granted it was a hard part to cast, but McGuire ugh.....

Iron Man is a close second. He was NOT a smart-aleck womanizing boozer playboy. Sadly, the people making these movies only care slightly about being faithful to the material (and even then only because they know some of the audience cares). Stan Lee needs to be smacked.
