  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I wonder where Whitehorse is. He's been offline for over 2 weeks now and I'm kinda worried about him. He's a good friend and I've been praying for him. Does anyone know where he might be?

I don't know him well...but I miss him too. He made me feel so welcome when I first started posting here. :(

ditto. What a great friend he is to so many on these forums. Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to pray for him no matter what's going on. It could be something fairly minor such as just getting busy. But let's all pray and see.

Lord I, with the others lift up our friend Whitehorse...Lord, hopefully he is just busy right now...busy in Your kingdom work. I pray for Your grace and strength to fill his heart and life right now.
I pray that he will be strengthened and refreshed in Your word and truth...Lord, let him have a special squeeze and hug from Your Spirit today.

I wish WH would just come back to say "hi" and let us know he's ok. Has anyone heard anything from him? I was thinking just now that if only we still had that function at christian forums where you can go to someone's profile and click "read all recent posts", then we might get a clue as to what happened just before WH stopped posting. Maybe if more time goes by, we can ask Erwin to look in to it for us. I mean, after all, Whitehorse might have posted in one of the forums here that he was thinking of giving up the internet for Lent! But maybe that doesn't fit because he stopped posting on February 7th. And Lent begins on Wednesday, February 9th. Hmmm. Maybe he started a little early? I know he is a Calvinist, but I have friends who are protestants who are more gung ho about Lent than most Catholics. Well, anyhow, I thought I would mention it.

Actually, I guess he is OK because I just looked at his profile and saw the following:
Last Activity: Today 05:54 PM

Wow, I really should look closer before I go and speculate about a brother. WH just posted in deeper fellowship. Welcome back, WH!

Hi, everyone. Thank you for your expressions of concern. I'm okay-thanks for asking. I feel the Lord leading me in some new directions, and I'm making preparations. The Lord has been gracious in directing me and giving me the right passages I need to fulfill the work.

I'm currently studying the conflict between good and evil and the voice of God's prophets. If anyone would like to add insight, I'm pleased to listen.

Peace to all standing with Christ.

I'm glad you are doing Ok and are enjoying some Spirit led studies. I am pretty clueless when it comes to prophecy, except that I do recognize that there is prophecy all through the bible (so during my yearly bible readings, when I run across prophecy, I'm thinking, "Oh yeah, that's prophecy. I don't understand it all, but I am reassured that God is telling us he's got everything in the palm of his hand."). I have heard that a good book is Walvoord's "Every Prophecy of the Bible". My husband is really into prophecy and he reads a few newsletters on the topic, such as Jack Kinsell'as Omega Letter. I think he also reads stuff by Hal Lindsey and Jack Van Impe. It sounds like you are studying it on your own, without any secondary sources.

You're right-there's prophecy throughout, like the fig tree that Jesus cursed. But it's not as much a focus as the OT. I've been told that we are in an age of grace and that's why there is far less of the harsher punishments, but I'm not finding a change. I find God is equally striking in His mercy and His judgment. Both are very striking, I think. But unfortunately I've heard the age of grace argument used to defend things grace was never ever designed to cover, and that is just one of the things that has delved me into a greater study of what really is going to happen at the judgment. I've been told so many times it's just the day we (Christians, not unbelievers though) go to collect the reward, but I find no evidence of that in scripture. There are far greater emphases on the gravity of each deed and while there will be an establishment of new power, there are those who will just make it as if escaping from flames. That doesn't sound like winning a spiritual lottery to me. The thing I'm fascinated with at the moment is the interconnectedness of judgment. I'm exploring that right now.

Thank you for your kind thoughts and interest. You're right-it seems to have a relatively small platform and yet it consumes such a large portion of scripture. I'm concerned by the concept of group judgment; entire communities being judged, for the good or the bad, for the acts of the individual. It really opens my eyes to the importance of every deed. Our churches need to be living and encouraging pure lives in our families and communities. Abraham comes to mind, being blessed along with his lineage after him, and yet while Jacob was blessed, Esau could not be saved as a result of it. A mix of the good and the bad. Achan comes to mind. Israel losing a battle because of him, and his whole family and even the livestock subject to judgment. That's startling, and a source of great concern. I've read it so many times before without really thinking about it, mostly because I'd always been taught the spiritual lottery theory of judgment: the idea that it's a great day where everyone shows up and collects the goods. And certainly there is reward. But it really has me thinking about what America is doing, and how we're all accountable for it. Wow. Or there are entire family lines that are blessed or cursed because of the deeds of a few. Thousands of generations of righteousness because of a faithful heart way back when that we don't even know. I find that fascinating. What kind of legacy do we have? Do we create by the Lord's power? It really makes each deed weigh a lot more. For good and bad, both.
