Hi all. I'm considering where God may take me next. I haven't answers but I do still feel compelled to move out of my home town in NJ when the time is right, Lord willing. This could happen before the next school year begins, whenever else God wishes, or never.

Currently we live in the smaller town that I grew up in. There is not a lot of educational (I am working on my associates in sociology right now, but would be open to an RN program if it fit into my life) or work opportunity here. There is not a very diverse population or strong and diverse church presence. My past is here. I am a new creation in Christ but I would like to reestablish myself in a new area.

With that said, any ideas of a good place to live with these considerations:
I am a 31 yr old single mom, working in healthcare (nursing home, medical daycare, hospice). I would like to move somewhere with a diverse population. My son is biracial and when I am ready to date again I would like to live in a place that is open to interracial families, and where racism isn't at issue. A place where we can plug into a diverse and active church family.
My son is 11.5 and I would like there to be more children for him to play with. More activities for him to get involved in. A good school area and safe. Places with resources like childcare and summer programs that would be helpful as a single parent would be great.

I can probably afford about $800 a month in rent for a 2 bedroom.

I read that Raleigh, NC is a good town for families with the crime rate, school success, cost of living, etc. Though being near a city and all it's options is great, I think I'd rather be on the outskirts a little (though I have no idea how city like Raleigh is). I have spent time in DC and the surrounding area and would like a bit less city (concrete jungle and traffic and highways galore) though I loved all the job, recreational, and educational opportunities. OTOH, I'm a bit of a country girl at heart.

Thanks for any ideas!

Florida might be nice-certainly has the elderly population and medical professional opportunities abound and it has city/country college towns and multi culture zones everywhere. Gainesville has the University of Florida, but there's Miami, FSU and others throughout the state.

I was born in Florida and I liked it at long as I lived there, I'm glad you recommended it.
