Where is TULIP found in the Westminster Confession of Faith?

Also, where did the Westminster Confession of Faith come from?

Thanks,

In order for you to understand what TULIP theology is, you need to understand that the acronym comes from the Canons of Dordt, which was nothing more than our Reformed answer to the false theology of the Remonstrants (the doctrinal ancestors to the Arminians). As such, the TULIP is only codified in exactly that way in the Canons of Dordt. This does not mean that the entire theology is not present in the Westminster confessions or the London Baptist confessions.

T - Total Depravity
U - Unconditional Election
L - Limited Atonement
I - Irresistible Grace
P - Preservation & perserverance of the Saints.

If you will take a cursory scan of the chapter titles, you will see some of the petals jump out at you. Others are not so obvious.

Chapter I Of the Holy Scripture

Chapter II Of God, and of the Holy Trinity

Chapter III Of God's Eternal Decree

Chapter IV Of Creation

Chapter V Of Providence

Chapter VI Of the Fall of Man, of Sin, and the Punishment thereof

Chapter VII Of God's Covenant with Man

Chapter VIII Of Christ the Mediator

Chapter IX Of Free Will

Chapter X Of Effectual Calling

Chapter XI Of Justification

Chapter XII Of Adoption

Chapter XIII Of Sanctification

Chapter XIV Of Saving Faith

Chapter XV Of Repentance unto Life

Chapter XVI Of Good Works

Chapter XVII Of the Perseverance Of the Saints

Chapter XVIII Of Assurance Of Grace and Salvation

Chapter XIX Of the Law Of God

Chapter XX Of Christian Liberty, and Liberty Of Conscience

Chapter XXI Of Religious Worship, and the Sabbath Dayå

Chapter XXII Of Lawful Oaths and Vows

CCWoody, I loved your quote, "Recognize that all true Christians will be Calvinists in glory,..."!

As for where the TULIP is found in the Confession, it doesn't state it exactly, but the concepts are found therein.

Sorry? I dont understand what point you're trying to make.

I find his signature offensive because it implies that all Christians will turn into "Calvinists" in Glory...i dont think that will be on anybodys mind when they are with our Father and it could cause unnecessary offense to people of other denominations. I am a "Calvinist" but I think its wrong to presume that we make no mistakes either...

Hey, what's going on here? Can't we calm down.

I agree with both of you.

In glory, everyone will appreciate God's sovereign grace in a way that (down here on earth) Arminians do not. BUT, we will know far more of it than Calvin ever did.

Calvinism is true, but it's not the whole truth - there is still so much more to learn. And in heaven we certainly won't be called Calvinists.
