We SDAs have a special understanding of the Sanctuary. With in its structure, layout and ornamentation (furnisings) we see an picture, or type, of Christ. We claim to have a complete understanding of all that the sanctuary represents, but is that really true?

In The Desire of Ages EGW writes about John the Baptist and how, during his ministry, he would call things by their right name. Do we do that with the Sanctuary or is our understanding flawed? What does the Bible say?

In this thread I intended to answer these questions while expanding upon its importance and the importance of knowing its true layout.

Exodus 25:8-9 "And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so ye make it."

We recognize this as God's instruction to Moses for constructing the mobile temple and that God had shown Moses a pattern for which it was to mirror or represent. As SDAs we know that the pattern used was the celestial sanctuary where in houses God's heavenly throne. Like the earthly sanctuary the heavenly sanctuary has three parts; what we currently believe as "the courtyard", "the Holy Place" and "the Most Holy Place." Therefore, what we find in scripture that refers to the earthly sanctuary would also apply to the Heavenly sanctuary. I will pause here to get confirmation and agreement before I continue.

40 views and no negative responses, no responses at all :p. I'll take that as agreement to what I've posted so far.

So now let's us look at what items were displayed and the activities that were done in each area of the Sanctuary.

1. Courtyard of the Congregation to the Tabernacle
a. Alter of burnt offering
(1) Sacrifice killed
(2) Sacrificed divided
(3) Sacrificed place and roasted on the Alter
(4) Eating of he sacrifices which blood was not sprinkled in the "Holy Place" by the priests

b. The Laver
(1) Washing of the sacrifice
(2) Washing of the Priest prior to entering "Holy Place"

2. The "Holy Place"
1. The Seven-branched candle stick (representing the Light of Christ)
2. Table of Shew Bread (Representing Christ as the bread of life and the Communion concecration)
3. The alter of Incense (Representing Christ's intersession to God and the prayers of the saints)

The priests (which ever priest conducts the sacrifice) enter the "Holy Place" with the blood of the offered sacrifice and sprinkle it upon the items there in. This represents the shedding of blood by Christ for the remission of our sins.

3. The Most Holy Place
The only item in this part of the Sanctuary is the Ark of the Covenant containing the Law of God, Arron's staff and an select amount of Manna. In an outter compartment we find the writings of Moses containing the ordinances and precepts that were against the Jews for their sins, these added as a precursor to the coming Messiah.

Again, I pause to get either confirmation or refutiation. Later all.

The earthly Holly place/tabernacle is in Jerusalem in Jeremiah's grotto, the Spiritual Holly Place is in you, the former being a type and shadow of the New Jerusalem as the latter being the true dwelling place of GOD.

Thanks for the response. We will be determining where the Holy Place by using scripture and scripture alone.

All scriptural references are taken from the AKJV bible.

Before we continue allow me to redesignate the areas of the sanctuary as "area 1", "area 2" and "area 3" to facilitate placing the scriptures we are about to study in their proper place within the sanctuary.

Ex. 26: 33 & 34: "And thou shalt hang up the vail under the taches, that thou mayest bring in thither within the vail the ark of the testimony: and the vail shall divide unto you between the holy place and the most holy. And thou shalt put the mercy seat upon the ark of the testimony in the most holy place."

In this verse God is directing Moses to erect the vail beween the "Holy Place" and the Most Holy, or the Most Holy Place as described in verse 34. As the Ark of the Testimony (Covenant) is in the Most Holy and the vail is to be between it and the adjoining area we can therefore say that verse 33 belongs in area #2, for this is where we first see the vail as we proceed toward the Most Holy, and verse belongs in area #3. Notice that the wording of area 3 in verses 33 and 34 is different. In verse 33 area 3 is described as "Most Holy", in verse 34 the translators add the word "Place" thus making it "Most Holy Place", yet, we understand it to mean the same area of the Sanctuary. Keep this in mind as we continue on.

Ex. 28:29 & 35 "And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment upon his heart, when he goeth in unto the holy place, for a memorial before the Lord continually." "And it shall be upon Aaron to minister: and his sound shall be heard when he goeth in unto the holy place before the Lord, and when he cometh out, that he die not."

Here we see that Aaron is to wear a breastplate of judgment bearing the names of the children of Israel and the golden bells and pomegranates when he enters the holy place in the presence of the Lord. Both verses refer to the same area, area #2, we know this because God only dwelt within the tented structure, never in the courtyard. The interceding veses describe the breastplate in detail.

Ex. 29:29-30 "And the holy garments of Aaron shall be his sons' after him, to be anointed therein, and to be consecrated in them. And that son that is priest in his stead shall put them on seven days when he cometh into the tabernacle of the congretation to minister in the holy place."

Here are the directions for the continuity of the priesthood through Aaron's sons. The holy garments are to be used in the same manner, in the Holy Place. Therefore, this verse is, again, in area #2.

Ex. 29:31-33 "And thou shalt take the ram of the consecration, and seethe his flesh in the holy place. And Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram, and the bread that is in the basket, by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. And they shall eat those things wherewith the atonement was made, to consecrate and to sanctify them: but a stranger shall not eat thereof, because they are holy."

Now we have a problem. I the holy place is area #2 then Aaron and his sons ar directed to "seethe" and "eat" the sacrifice here. Yet the instruments of sacrifice are in area #1, which we know as the courtyard. Why the discrepancy? Either area #1 is the holy place or area #2 is the holy place, unless we claim that both are the holy place and that is not what is taught. What is taught is that each area has its own significance and each is separate from th other. Understand also that no where in scripture do we find God dwelling in the courtyard, only in the holy place and the most holy place. But, here the courtyard is called the holy place. Remember that I told you to keep in mind Ex. 26:33 & 34? In verse 33 area #3 was call the "Most Holy" and in verse 34 the translator added the word "place" and mand it "Most Holy Place". But we understand that each verse meant the same area. That cannot be in this case. Either area #1 is the holy place or area #2 is the holy place. How do we determine which is and which isn't?

"We have many lessons to learn, and many to unlearn. God and heaven alone are infallible. Those who think that they will never have to give up a cherished view, never have occasion to change an opinion, will be disappointed. As long as we hold to our own ideas and opinions with determined persistency, we cannot have unity for which Christ prayed. - SM1 pg 37 (The Review and Herald, July 26, 1892)

Ellen white tells us that we are to continually search the scriptures for the the light that God has to give. In some cases we may have to change our views on some things we thought we knew. Our stubbornness in refusing to do so takes us from the truth, the church and ultimately from God.

"Revival signifies a renewal of spritual life, a quickening of the powers of mind and heart, a resurrection from spiritual death. Reformantion signifies reorganization, a change in ideas and theories, habits and practices. Reformation will not bring forth the good fruit of righteousness unless it is connected with the revival of the Spirit. Revival and reformation are to do their appointed work, and in doing this work they must blend." - SM1 pg 128 (The Review and Herald, Feb 25, 1902)

We often talk about revival, but revival cannot come unless we are willing to continue to grow and we can only do this if we are willing to dig deep into God's word to find the truths he wishes us to find. He provides to us His Holy Spirit to help us in this endeavor but we must be willing to learn and be taught by Him. Notice that this was written late in EGWs life. Many believe that she was given all that we were to know and that we need nothing else but what we have currently. But her writings do not indicate this at all. On many occasions, this is just but on example, she stresses the need to search the scriptures for new light and our requirement to let the Holy Spirit guide us.

However, 'new light' has to be brought about by the Holy Spirit and we need to be careful that its not of 'private interpretation.'

"When God's word is studied, comprehended, and obeyed, a bright light will be reflected to the world; new truths, received and acted upon, will bind us to strong bonds to Jesus. The Bible, and the Bible alone, is to be out creed, the sole bond of union; all who bow to this Holy Word will be in harmony. Our own views and ideas nust not control our efforts. Man is fallible, but God's word is infallible. In stead of wrangling with one another, let men exalt the Lord. Let us meet all oppostition as did our master, saying "It is written." Let us lift up the banner on which is inscribed, The Bible our rule of faith and discipline." - SM1 pg 416 (Review and Herald, Dec 15, 1885)

THe Spirit of Prophecy implores us to rely upon the written word and that alone. Our "rule of faith" must be always the Bible. When we have questions we must first go to the original source Book of faith and if we still have questions the we must consult the prophets for guidance. In their guidance must be symmetry of scripture, but always we must be able to say as Christ said when confronting Satan, "It is written."

"How shall we search the Scriptures in order to understand what they teach? We should come to the investigation of God's word with a contrite heart, a teachable and prayerful spirit. We are not to think as the Jews, that our own ideas and opinions are infallible; nor with the papists, that certain individuals are the sole guardians of truth and knowledge, that men have no right to search the Scriptures themselves, but must accept the explanations given by the Fathers of the church. We should not study the Bible for the purpose of sustaining our preconceived opinions, but with the single object of learning what God has said." - Gospel Workers Pg 125

Neither John the Baptist nor Jesus were educated in the synagogue. Most of the founders of the SDAs were not formally schooled in theological schools, yet, here we are second only to the Romans in numbers. They took nearly two millennia to get to where they are, it took us just under 150 years. But we must remembe, that NO on is infallible. EGW gives us specific and important guidelines in studyin out questions when we searcg tge scriptures. Our motives must be pure and not for self gain. It took me much prayer and long nights, and many years to search out what I now present here, and only because I myself was confused and needed to know. The answers I obtained from men were not sufficient, so i took on this project and what is shown here is the result.

In studying this subjuect I learned that the translators of the Authorized King James Bible took liberties by adding certain words in an attempt to male God's word more understandable. This was a noble and honest jester but, in the case of the sanctuary, adding these words lead to confusion and the makeup of the sanctuary. Not only was this the result, but they violated a command given by God to Moses and the Israelites not to take away from or add anything to what He had commanded them concerning all things that Hd had shown them and told them they must do.

Deuteronomy 12:32 "What thing soever I command you, observe to do: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it."

Proverbs 30:6 "Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a lair."

We are told we must build a doctrince upon more than one scripture, I have shown you two pertaining to not adding to or taking away from God's Word. I saved this next one for last, even though it's the first to appear in the scriptures, for a very special reason.

Deuteronomy 4:2 "Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish aught from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord."

Do you see it?

This would have been the first occurrence wherein God gives the command not to add to or take away from his Word. Yet in this verse they do exactly that and as they continued to translate and found the others they persistently ignored God's commandment not to do so. I have been told, though I still search the Spirit of Prophecy's writings to find it, that she has stated that all the italicized words in the scriptures are valid, except the one pertaining to the Daily Sacrifice found in Daniel 12. But if we are to go by what scripture says, and I do, none of these should be considered valid, as they stand against God's very commandments. Case in point. If God is our Father then we are obligated to obey the 5th commandment and by disregarding His commanded to not add to or take away from His word we dishonor Him, thus we break the 5th commandment and we transgress the Law of God.

Now that I've covered some needed ground on that rabbit trail let's get back to the sanctuary and, disregarding the added "place"s within scripture concerning the sanctuary let's find the Holy Place.

When we now read Verses 28:29 & 35, we have the same italicization in the area in which Aaron enters wearing his priestly garments.
Again, in Ex. 29:29-30, where Aaron’s sons are directed to conduct their priestly duties when Aaron cannot.
Ex. 29:31 therefore becomes clearer because “Place” is not italicized and therefore was not added but part of the original Hebraic scripture and therefore translated from the original. Ex. 29:31, therefore is placed under Area #1 because this is the area in which the sacrifices were made and the priests were directed to eat their portion of it.

Ex 31:11 "And the anointing oil, and sweet incense for the holy place: according to all I have commanded thee shall they do.

This verse comes after God has informed Moses as to who the artisans where who were to make all the items for the sanctuary. In verse 11 God denotes the “anointing oil and the sweet incense for the Holy Place”. Again we see that “Place” is italicized, indicating that it was added by the translators and therefore should read “the Holy”, therefore we place this verse in Area #2 because this is also were the anointing oil and the sweet incense were used by the priests.

Ex 35:19 "The cloths of the service, to do service in the holy place, the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priests office."

In Chapter 35 of Exodus Moses now directs the People to bring in their freewill offerings so that all that God had directed him to do concerning the Tabernacle, the Sanctuary, could be carried out. In Chapter 19 he mentions the Priestly Garments and where they are to be used, in the Holy Place. Once again, Place is italicized so we know that it was added by the translators. This verse goes in Area #2. This also can be referenced back to Ex. 29:29-30

Ex 38:24 "All the gold that was occupied for the work in all the work of the holy place, even the gold of the offering, was twenty and nine talents, and seven hundred and thirty shekels after the shekel of the sanctaury."
Here is numbered the amount of Gold set in use in the Holy Place, and again Place is italicized, added by the translators, so, where does this verse go? Area #2 Also in observing the construction of the Sanctuary we know that specific types of metals were used in specific areas in the Sanctuary, Gold was used only in the Holy and the Most Holy, not in the Courtyard.

Ex 39:1 & 41 "And of the blue, and purple, and scarlet, they made cloths of service, to do service in the holy place, made the holy garments for Aaron; as the Lord commanded Moses." "The cloths of service in the holy place and the holt garments for Aaron the priest, and his sons' garments, to minister in the priest's office."

Again we read about the vestments of the priests and where they are to be worn and again we see that Place is Italicized. Area #2

Leviticus 6:16 & 26-27 "And the remainder thereof shall Aaron and his sons eat: with unleavened bread shall it be eaten in the holy place; in the court of the tabernacle of the congregation they shall eat." "The priest that offereth it for sin shall eat it: in the holy place shall it be eaten, in the court of the tabernacle of the congregation. Whatsoever shall touch flesh thereof shall be holy: and when there is sprinkled of blood thereof upon any garment, thou shalt wash that whereon it was sprinkled in the holy place."

Verses 16 & 26 gives a very distinct description of where the Holy Place is “The Court Of the Tabernacle of the Congregation”, there cannot be any question as to where this is meant. Note also that Place in this instance is NOT italicized and therefore was in the original text and not added by the translators. Additionally in verse 37 it speaks of washing garments that were splattered (sprinkled) with blood. There is only one place that afford the ability for this to take place and that is at the Laver which is in the the Court of the tabernacle of th congregtion. Therefore these verses must goes in Area #1

Ex. 6:30 "And no sin offering, whereof any of the blood brought into the tabernacle of the congregation to reconcile withal in the holy place, shall be eaten: it shall be burnt with fire."

Any sacrifice that is a sin offering and the blood has been used within the tabernacle, sprinkled upon the vessels inside, is not to be eaten. It is to be burnt. But, as we saw in verse 26, if the blood has not been used within the tabernacle it is to be eating in the “Court of the tabernacle of the Congregation” which God identifies as the Holy Place. The sprinkling takes place in the Holy, Place is italicized and thus added. This is Area #2.

Lev. 7:6 "Every male among the priests shall eat thereof: it shall be eaten in the holy place: it is most holy."

Directions in conducting another offering in which the priests are to eat in the Holy Place, Place not being italicized and we already know that the sacrifices are to be eaten in the court and God already identifying the Holy Place as the Court of the Tabernacle of the Congregation, this goes in Area #1

Lev. 10:13 & 17 "And ye shall eat it in the holy place, because it is thy due, and thy sons' due, of the sacrifices of the Lord made by fire: for so I am commanded." "Wherefore have ye not eaten the sin offering in the holy place, seeing it is most holy, and God hath given it you to bear the iniquity of he congregation to make atonement for them before the Lord."

Herein Moses now directs Aaron how he and his sons are to conduct themselves as priests of the Lord. In that direction he tells Aaron where it is that he and his sons are to eat the portions of the offerings that are theirs. In verse 17 Moses admonishes Aaron for failing to eat all the portions of the offerings that were his and his sons. Again consider where it is that the sacrifices were to be eaten and that in these verses Place is not italicized, therefore these go in Area #1.

Lev. 10:18 "Behold, the blood of it was not brought in within the holy place: ye should indeed have eaten it in the holy place, as I commanded."

I must admit that this verse has me perplexed and it would be dishonest of me not to include this text in this study. As you can see Moses’ admonition continues as he tells Aaron that the blood of a sin offering was not brought into the Holy Place (italicized) and therefore should have been eaten. In the second part of this verse Moses tell Aaron that the sacrifice should have been eaten in the holy place, also italicized. The rules of Biblical interpretation dictate that the majority of texts are to be used as a guide and as it is human nature to error, for whatever reason, I can only deduce that somewhere at some time someone either omitted a word here or that the type setting was put in wrong or some other obscure happenstance occurred, but, as sacrificial blood is only used inside the tented structure of the tabernacle the first part of this text must go in Area #2 and knowing that all other scripture so far supports eating of the sacrifice in the court the second part must go in area 1.

Lev. 14:13 "And he shall slay the lamb in the place where he shall kill the sin offering, in the holy place: for as the sin offering is the priest's, so is the trepass offering: it is most holy."

During God’s direction for cleansing those healed of leprosy God directs the priests to offer a Male Lamb in the same location as the sin offering and the burnt offering. This is conducted in the Court which God has identified as The Holy Place (not italicized). Area #1.

"The forerunner of Christ's first advent was a very plainspoken man. He rebuked sin and called things by their right names... In this fearful time, just before Christ is to come the second time, God's faithful preachers will have to bear a still more pointed testimony than was borne by John the Baptist." Testimonies 1 pg 321

Reviewing these scriptural texts it now becomes apparent what the true configuration of the Tabernacle and Sanctuary is and that the Holy Place is The Court of the Tabernacle of the Congregation. We now have "The Holy Place (the court of the tabernacle of the congregation), The Holy, and The Most Holy or the Holiest of Holies.

As we approach the coming of the Lord it becomes more and more important that we know what scripture teaches and how they relate to one another. We are not above error, it is why EGW warned the church of her time constantly of the dangers of slackness in studying scripture and prayer. John the Baptist knew things for what they were and identified them as such, we need to do the same, properly and correctly, understanding that error is error, no matter how slight it may seem.

I have presented to you a different view of the sanctuary setup. This does not change the sanctuary message, but we need to understand that all there is to know of the plan of God is revealed in the sanctuary. In it we have all of the components of the prophecies given pertaining to the revelation of salvation through Christ and those that point to his soon return. But we must be able to identify those components as did the Israelite prophets of old.

Thank you for that.

This leads to the question:

What is the "sanctuary message" proper?
We know that in the sanctuary above Jesus is
interceding for us before God. What is He
pleading:

Notice the following statement which makes
it crystal clear what it is Christ is pleading
before the Father in our behalf:

"The intercession of Christ in our behalf is that
of presenting His divine merits in the offering of
Himself to the Father as our Substitute and
Surety; for He ascended up on High to make
an atonement for our transgressions
." Faith &
Works, 105.

Moment by moment, in our behalf, Jesus is presenting
His divine MERITS before the Father. In doing this He is
making atonement for our transgressions. So what is
the atonement? Pleading the merits of His infinite sacrifice
in behalf of sinners but especially those who believe, those
who believe that the merits of His sacrifice are sufficient to
present to the Father in their behalf in order to obtain the
blessings of forgivness and light and peace and joy in the
Holy Spirit.

"The merits of Christ's sacrifice are sufficient to present to
the Father in our behalf
." Steps to Christ, 36.

Jesus pleaded the merits of His sacrifice in the Holy Place
until 1844 and since He has been in the Most Holy Place He
has continued to plead His merits in our behalf but the time
will come when He will make the final atonement and He will
no longer plead His merits in behalf of sinners.

Probation will have closed.

In the meantime, "Present your case before God pleading the
merits of the blood shed for you upon Calvary's cross
." F.W.106.

This is our only plea.

"Faith is the condition upon which God has promised pardon to
sinners; not that there is any virtue in faith whereby salvation
is merited, but because faith can lay hold of the merits of Christ,
the remedy provided for sin
." F.W.100-101.

But the religion of Christ means more than the forgiveness of sin.

"Looking unto Jesus and trusting in His merits, we appropriate the
blessings of light and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit
." Testimonies,
vol.5, 744.

And the Holy Spirit brings the righteousness of Christ into the life
and "His righteousness accomplishes everything" as "it is made
manifest in obedience to all the commandments of God
." Faith &
Works,27; Testimonies to Ministers, 92.

To me this is the sanctuary message which, in essence, is the
third angel's message.

What say you?

Sky, thank you for your rundown on the Sanctuary Message, but that wasn't the purpose of this thread. It was to lead to a proper understand of where the Holy Place is.

Sin, I'm not sure what you are talking out with that 1982 date, so if you could expand that would be helpful. But I also ask if it does not pertain to this thread please start another. Thank you.

As to why I wanted to point to the proper designation for the Holy Place it is that it has a significant place in prophetic script. Also, remember that the earthly sanctuary is only a poor imitation of the celestial sanctuary, but that every thing done in the earthly is magnified in the celestial. Ask yourself this question, where were the sacrifices to be done in the earthly? If the sacrifices in the earthly were to be done in the court then why was Jesus sacrificed outside of it? He wasn't. He was sacrificed in the Court of the Celestial sanctuary and the only conclusions we can make of that is that the Earth created by Him was the court of the Celestial sanctuary. "Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven." That make Earth the Holy Place.

Now, let's go even deeper. If Earth is the Holy PLace, what is the significance of Satan usurping Adam's kingly reign on? Wasn't Satan's goal to ultimately usurp God's throne in Heaven? So what better place to start then at the Holy Place? When Satan deceived Eve and she in turn pursued Adam Satan be came Lord of this world, bringing sin, destruction and desolation to this world. In other words, Satan became the abomination that bringeth desolation in the Celestial Holy Place. "as it is in heaven." What is happening down here has already happened up there.

Sprinkled Blood of the Covenant And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people,
and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD
hath made with you concerning all these words.

(Exodus 24:6-8 KJV)
Then shall he kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the vail, and do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it upon the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat:
(Lev 16:15 KJV)

As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men: So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider. (Isa 52:14 & 15 KJV)
And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; (Mat 27:51 KJV)

But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.; (John 19:34 KJV)

And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel. (Hebrews 12:24 KJV)
For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
(1 John 5:7-8 KJV)
To Anoint The Most Holy And thou shalt hang up the vail under the taches, that thou mayest bring in thither within the vail the ark of the testimony: and the vail shall divide unto you between the holy place and the most holy. And thou shalt put the mercy seat upon the ark of the testimony in the most holy place. (Exodus 26:33,34 KJV)
And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place, into the oracle of the house, to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims. (1 Kings 8:6 KJV)
And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place, to the oracle of the house, into the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims: (2 Chron 5:7 KJV)
Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. (Dan 9:24 KJV) The Mercy Seat on the Ark
jimark01.jpg
jimark02.jpg

And thou shalt make a mercy seat of pure gold: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof. And thou shalt make two cherubims of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them, in the two ends of the mercy seat. And make one cherub on the one end, and the other cherub on the other end: even of the mercy seat shall ye make the cherubims on the two ends thereof. And the cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be. And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark; and in the ark thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee. (Exo 25:17-21 KJV

Like I said, Sinner, this has nothing to do this this topic, start another thread.

Hebrews 9:12

Neither by the blood of goats and calves,

but by his own blood he entered in once

into the holy place,

having obtained eternal redemption for us

This has everything to do with everything, especially this "topic" or better worded our propitiation .

This is why I'm only using the Bible, especially the AKJV
I appreciate your desire to use only the Bible; and all the off-topic stuff here aside, may I ask why you asked the question of the OP? Sometimes, this sheds valuable light on a subject, and while I think the scriptures used so far, in regards to "the Holy Place" are pertinent, I get the message that there may be more to your point than what has so far been discussed. Correct me if I am wrong. :)

Been reading a lot of posts since I returned from being gone 2.5 years. Figured you'd be the one to see the obvious. I have done a lot of studying during that time, bible and EGW, and have strengthened my views on somethings because of it. Yes, there is more to the story, and I will explain further as I gather the proofs together.

...Ex.
Now we have a problem. ...
There is no problem, when we go line upon line, and no need to alter the altar as it were. Scripture is plain as well as the SoP on this matter. The language simply means that the flesh was to be boiled in a place sanctified/set aside for holy purpose. The text does not designate the whole Courtyard as the Holy Place.

For when we read:

And Moses said unto Aaron and to his sons, Boil the flesh at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and there eat it with the bread that is in the basket of consecrations, as I commanded, saying, Aaron and his sons shall eat it. Leviticus 8:31

...we see there was a designated and set aside spot, "a holy place" designated by God, even "...at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation..."

Other translations of Exodus 29:30-31, even read that way - See others - Exodus 29:31 "Take the ram for the ordination and cook the meat in a sacred place.

The Hebrew has no definite article in front of "holy place":

29:30 shiv'at yämiym yil'Bäshäm haKohën Tach'Täyw miBänäyw ásher yävo el-ohel môëd l'shärët BaQodesh

29:31 w'ët ëyl haMiLuiym TiQäch ûviSHal'Tä et-B'särô B'mäqom qädosh

Exodus 29 - Hebrew English Translation Massoretic Text MT Interlinear Holy Name King James Version KJV Strong's Concordance Online Parallel Bible Study

...but even the KJV, which I love, is still perfectly fine, when line upon line is used. For the place of the Door of the Tabernacle was the designated and sanctified/set aside place, the holy place, the set aside spot, for special uses and occasions.

Other places to consider are:

“The priest that offereth it for sin shall eat it: In a holy place shall it be eaten, in the court of the tent of meeting.” Leviticus 6:26, R.V

There are several other things done at this 'holy place', even the place of the "door of the tabernacle of the Congregation". There was blood poured out [Leviticus 4:4,7,18], etc. It was this certain set aside place for Holy Use, since the Door typifies Christ Jesus. So the words used in Exodus 29, does not suddenly make the whole courtyard "the Holy Place".

The Holy Place is within the First Veil,

See Hebrews 9:2; Hagia [Holy place, or simply Sanctuary]

For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein [was] the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary. Hebrews 9:2

...and many texts substantiate this, therefore please consider two of them, showing clearly the two things as separate:

When the priests enter therein, then shall they not go out of the holy place into the utter court, but there they shall lay their garments wherein they minister; for they are holy; and shall put on other garments, and shall approach to those things which are for the people. Ezekiel 42:14

But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. Revelation 11:2

Yes, indeed. Into the Holy. I agree with you, it is important to understand and relevant to this topic.

Some "translations" [I use that term very loosely], like the NIV, butcher this text and torture the Greek.

For Instance:

He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption. Hebrews 9:12 NIV

That word "most" is not present in the Greek. Not even in the corrupted [alex., vat., etc.,] manuscripts. See for yourself - Hebrews 9 - Parallel Greek New Testament - HTML Bible by johnhurt.com

It should say properly...

Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption [for us]. Hebrews 9:12

In fact, Walter Martin, got this one totally wrong, even the audio/video clip of him saying that it says in the Greek 'the Most Holy Place'... when it simply doesn't.
