Where is Jesus?

I was praying this afternoon (5/22/11), and I was thinking about the busyness of our lives and how we can get so busy with all of life's activities that Jesus often takes a back seat or is forgotten altogether from our lives. The Lord inspired me to write a song about all the things in our lives, which begs to ask the question, "Where is Jesus?" It is not assuming he is not there, but the questions posed are for us to examine our lives to see if he is there involved with us in all of our activities, and if we are involved with his will for our lives while we are engaged in all our busyness. Or, are we involved in activities which would not be pleasing to him? Or, is Jesus taking a back seat in our lives, or is he forgotten altogether?

"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does." ~ James 1:22-25​

Thank you for sharing your rendition. I'm not sure the meaning, though, of the last line in relation to the rest of the poem, unless the last lines of each stanza are progressive?

Well, the first two last lines naturally ask if Jesus was in any of those personal pursuits but the last stanza had a different feel so I transitioned the last line to reflect the result of the worldly pursuits...mainly that the person thinking/writing may have ran past or away from Jesus when trying to outdo the competition.

Thank you! It was fun and challenging to interpret it...and I fully admit I have a tad OCD when it comes to rhyming

When I was younger, and I used to write poems, I always felt like they had to rhyme. Then, in 2011, when the Lord first started giving me songs to write, some rhymed, but some didn't, and it was weird, at first, but then I got used to it, and it didn't matter to me anymore. I mean it was strange, cause I always felt like poems should rhyme, but they don't have to. But, I must admit that I had to step outside my own box to have them not rhyme. But, it was the Lord giving them to me, and so I just received them as he poured them into my mind, with few adjustments.

I am glad that you enjoyed working with the poem/song. You did a good job of making it rhyme and still hold to the original message.

I write some free verse poetry where there is no rhyming. There are no real rules with true poetry
