  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Where in the NT did the Church start?

Which verse in the NT shows the birth of the Church?
Jesus said where ever two or three are gather in my name I am there among them.

So where is the first time that people gather together to worship God?

Church is translated from the NT word ecclesia ... which means "called-out ones" ?

One could argue that the church began as Christ began collecting His disciples.

Or ... that it began at Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came upon those gathered in the upper room.

Paul says ... in 1 Corinthians 3. that the Church was founded upon Christ ...

10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

... and Paul teaches, in Ephesians 2 ...

19 Therefore you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens of the saints and members of God’s household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the cornerstone. 21 In Him the whole building is fitted together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 And in Him you too are being built together into a dwelling place for God in His Spirit.

It didn't start in the NT. The Greek word "ekklesia" is translated as "church" and is used many times in the Septuagint to refer to Israel in the wilderness, so that is when the Church began, it is has always referred to the assembly of God's people. In Amos 9:11-12, it prophesies the restoration of Israel and in Acts 15:16-17, they quotes those verses in application to themselves, so they certainly saw themselves as the fulfillment of that prophecy.
