Wondering what everyone does with their pictures. I scrapbook. I also store my pics on computer and CD's. But I make sure all my favorite pics get into scrapbook photo albums so we can look at them and remember the stories that go with them.

I recently purchased a laptop which has a built in card reader, which is very nice.My camera fits nicely into my laptop bag, so it's all good.

I also have made several music videos using some of my own videography and photography set to Christian songs... I also print out 8 1/2 x 11 copys of pictures that I have added Bible verses to.

While digital is a great thing (I shoot 100% digital), hard drives DO crash, CDs DO degrade, and you would be surprised at how one virus or damaged partition can destroy entire folders of images. I store terbytes of image data, and thank goodness the backups are in place. You don't realize how utterly important your own images are until you lose them. Or until you have to pay a company several hundred dollars to retrieve data off of a bad drive.
We back everything up to CDs or DVDs, and then we back it up again to stand alone hard drives (which run less than $1 per gig of storage space these days). Once a drive is full - for instance, I'll have 25-30 weddings on a drive - it goes to storage.
I guess I've just seen too many people in tears who have lost generations of photos due to sloppy storage methods. One of the best things you can do is have all the important photos scanned, and place those CDs and DVDs and negatives into a safety deposit box.

CDs are generally thought to be more stable than DVDs for long term storage. Keeping them in cases in a cool, dry dark location (like a safety deposit box or safe closet) will protect them for decades. The problem seems to be that the outer coating degrades, creating problems when your peripherals try to read the data on the CD/DVD.
We've seen CDs go bad for no discernable reason after only 3-4 years. We're covered because we back files up in multiple locations.
To keep things even safer, we don't write on our CDs or attach labels. The case gets the contents label instead.
The marketplace is demanding better data (image) storage solutions with extended longevity, so we'll see higher capacity storage devices hit the market soon enough. Just make sure you transfer your data from time to time to keep up with new tools.
