I've been collecting music for 35 years. Initially I found my music at the local Christian book/music store. Back in the 70's and 80's the stores had a huge variety of music and listening stations where you could preview the albums.

I also attended Cornerstone Festival for several years. There were 200-300 bands playing there each summer, so I always found new music.

There aren't any radio stations that play the kind of music that I like, so it's very hard to find new music anymore. I pay attention to recommendations from other people now.

When I'm on the computer, I listen to Pandora. I have 30-35 artists whose stations I have "picked", then I set the Pandora player on shuffle. I hear way more than those 30-35 artists, because Pandora adds similar artists to each station. For example, right now, Steely Dan's "Deacon Blues" is playing, but they are not one of the artists I subscribe to. They are actually on the Todd Rundgren channel, which I think is very cool. I hear lots of Led Zeppelin (one of my favorites), but I never chose Zeppelin as a channel - they are played on several of the stations I picked. Anyway, I think Pandora is excellent, and good way to hear a lot different music without a whole lot of work.

What media resource do you use to find music that encourages you throughout your day? Do you listen to a local radio station on your way in to work? Any good church worship CD's worth mentioning? If you listen to an Ipod how did you find the music you have on there?

Christian rap? You have got to be kidding me. Doesn't compare to wu-tang era rap. "Christian" anything in the music industry is the equivalent to the chinese "I brought my video camera into the movie theatre" DVDs.

Also, check out rdio.com because they have a lot of selection. I'm pretty sure its free for 2 months as well and they even have an app to stream to mp3/iphone.

In the early days, Fm Radio was my primary source for discovering music, Christian or otherwise. When buying Christian music, it was most often at a Christian bookstore.

Today the internet is my primary source for discovering music. One site that has been very useful to me is Last Fm. It's officially a internet radio station, where you get to choose your own music, in a somewhat random, semi-controlled fashion. I guess it works similar to Pandora. Currently I officially have 1,540 music artists on my Last Fm page (though the number might be a bit off, since some artist names can be repeated, or sometimes more than one artist with the same name yet counted as one artist).

I also discover music on other sites like Grooveshark, 8tracks.com, and of course You Tube.

The last Cd I bought was at a Christian bookstore, Patty Griffin's "Downtown Church", something I actually heard on the local Christian station (when it had a show I liked a bit). But it's a rarity now. Generally speaking I can longer find the music I like at the Christian bookstore, and radio isn't as helpful to me as it was in the past. Mostly, if I do buy an album now, it's through the internet.

Any good church worship CD's worth mentioning?

Yes. Earlier this year I bought the worship Cd "Drum" by Broken Walls, an entire worship album done in a Native Indian drum style, just drums and vocals. Not a weak song in the bunch, but when I lent it to a friend, he told me it was original and "good for what it is" but it all sounds the same. I was kind of hoping he would appreciate it more than he did. Guess it isn't for everyone, but if you like traditional Native drum chants, I recommend it. (The same group also does more Contemporary Native music, but not on this album).

Here is one example of what Broken Walls does in traditional drum mode:

The same group in more modern fashion:

Another recommendation, is a live worship album by Misty Edwards called "Only a Shadow" I don't have the Cd or Dvd yet, but the entire live album has been uploaded on You Tube. First heard it last week. It has blessed me and pulled me much deeper into her music. Just barely listened to her before. Here it is:

Mostly I find new music by posting at music forums but I also find it at parties and chatting with my friends. I listen to almost all types of music but I have restrictions - it has to be Christian or at least not offensive to Christian values. I also find some music at Last.fm. It's easy to find other Christians and share music that way.

I have almost 2,000 tracks on my Sansa Fuze and some of my favorite bands are Attack Attack, Devil Wears Prada, and Relient K. :)
