the first ot ever composed was by ezra in 530 bc...
composed... so letters were already writen..and jewish people were going off the first 5 books of the OT... thats what i think... i know the ezra bit.. but not the jewish bit...

Well uhm I'm looking at my Bible right now and it gives summaries and other facts about each book. Here's what I've found:
Genesis is written by Moses around 1450 BC.
Exodus was also written by Moses around the same time as Genesis.
Leviticus had the same author and was written around 1445-1444 BC.
Numbers was written by Moses around 1450-1410 BC.
Deuteronomy was written by Moses with the final summary probably by Joshua around 1407 or 1406 BC.

The dates depend on a few things.
The Hebrew people preserved their history through oral traditions which were written down some time following the events.
A better question involves when the event occurred and when the books of the old testament were compiled as a whole, which seems to begin sometime around the babylonian exile.
The OT canon was closed at the Council of Jamnia around 90 AD.
