"Excuse me...uh...we don't like Elon Musk spreading misinformation by giving a presidential candidate an interview on X (Twitter) are you guys going to do something about it?"
Meanwhile...
I know it's impossible to ask people to put aside their political views but....
How do we really feel about government "intervention" on misinformation?
It's a sticky issue. I don't trust it. After all, turns out Hunter Biden is likely guilty of using his name to try and influence the State Department when Joe was VP....for money. Why are we hearing this now? Because he's already a lame duck president with no need to protect him. Harris is literally changing headlines that pop up on your browser to look more favorable than they are...
Elon Musk is giving Trump huge interviews to just pop off and say what he wants to massive amounts of people.
The SCOTUS ruled that government pressure on social media (or any media apparently) isn't quite enough to be infringement upon free speech....
And I think most would agree that the government preventing foreign election interference is a good thing. I personally think it's weird when they also engage in that exact same interference.
I'd say that generally speaking....the problem is that these huge companies have essentially free reign to promote whomever they want...with little oversight....and that seems to entrench their control over candidates. Want to use Elons big platform for your benefit? Well you gotta appeal to his politics. Want the legacy media to promote and protect you without asking any difficult questions? Well you're gonna have to appeal to their politics.
Obviously, Russia and Iran or any other country interference in elections is a problem. I just happen to think it's no less a problem when our government does the same thing. It seems we need more election rules/regulations to ensure more facts reach voters....and less garbage.
Thoughts?
