  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When satan comes calling.

Our enemy attacks in a direct fashion that may seem non-direct. In Job
you'll see Health, wealth, family and friends are used. In Mark 8 an attack,
notice the sublime way that it is posed. Another example in Galatians2
11-14. In many ways our fallen nature will assist in this. One may ask how
does our nature assist in this? A very simple illustration would be when we
rely on our own understanding. In the Garden of Eden when the fruit was
eaten. Did Adam and Eve die right there on the spot? No not physically and
not on the spot. Spiritually they did and then physically. We were given a
warning on relying on our own understanding in Proverbs3 verse 5. In
Proverbs2 verse 6 we are shown where we should draw our understanding.

Today we see the same tactics used. These tactics are designed to cause
doubt, confusion and division. Many today point wholly to science and their
understanding thereof as a way to explain things. Yet our science is ever
changing and so is our understanding of it. There are many among you that
will say, "When the Bible was written we didn't have the understanding that
we do today". What these people are saying whether they know it or not is,
that the Almighty and Living God doesn't know what he is talking about.

How then do we guard against his attacks? If we rely on our own
understanding we will surly fall, however we can hold up any situation
against the Word of God and compare it to what he said. In Acts 17:11 this
same method was used by the Bereans. Here in lies the problem. Many are
drawing there understanding wholly from men and not from his most Holy Word.
I ask you, does a soldier go into battle without his weapon? No, he does
not. Why then are so many not taking the sword of truth (the scriptures) in
their hearts and minds into this daily battle? We must be sure to put on
the whole armor of God, as stated in Ephesians 6:10-18. So I ask you.
Please, in these last days. In these few and fleeting moments. Please read
and study his word, so that you may not be deceived by our enemy satan.
Remember your life is kept not by what you eat but by the word of God
(Matthew 4:4 & Luke 4:4).

May the Lord richly bless you as you read his Word today.

Thank you for this post. This question has been on my mind lately.

How can a true work of the Holy Spirit be distinguished from that which is false?

Look at 1 John 4, there are some distinguishing characteristics of the Holy Spirit's work. In short, a true work of the Holy Spirit: (1) Exalts the true Christ, (2) Opposes Satan's interests, (3) Points people to the Scriptures, (4) Elevates truth, and (5) Results in love for God and others.

Recently, I also found that not only discerning truth but also challenging the teaching that you think is false is important. If the teaching is indeed false - you'll find out. If not, the teacher should not mind reaffirming or explaining the teaching. A good way to challenge a false teaching is with scripture (the sword).

Jesus Christ will never lead anywhere that goes against God's word -- they are both absolute truth!!! Proclaim it!!!!

John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 17:17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

P.S. The sword of the spirit - the word of God is the only offensive weapon we have!

Hebrews 4:12-13 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
