  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

When people ask for prayer and you hit the Prayer icon, what do you actually do?

For myself, I right then try to get in a prayer attitude and take a moment to sincerely wish that God helps the person.

I have heard others are more organized. They actually put the request on a list and continue to pray for the person. Others may have different methods of honoring the prayer request. What is your method?

I think out the prayer I would have written in a post and submit it to God and not the forum.

There are a lot of reasons why this could be, but the most common is that I’m praying the same thing as what other posters in the thread have said. Other times I’m having a storm of emotions and thoughts that just hits me when I read a request and I’m just like “Yes, Lord, and go do that.” It gets hard to articulate.

9 times out of 10, I try to make a post, because otherwise they will never know what I’m really praying for them. That is the weakness of that icon.

I hit the icon. Say a prayer for them and add them to my prayer list for daily prayer.

This is a really good question. I've prayed for a request and not hit the icon because I've wondered if that gave the impression that I was praying daily when I'd just prayed once. Now I hit it to encourage the person that I have prayed for them, but it might only be once.

I felt the same as you, now I think it is fine to hit the icon even if you just pray once. The Lord hears our prayers, even if we don't repeat them. Though sometimes if the person continues to explain the situation; I will pray again for their new circumstances. If the requester post the outcome of their situation, I always appreciate that and often give a Like icon. There probably isn't a wrong way to honor prayer requests. I always feel better and encouraged when I know people are praying for me.

Romans 12:12 said:
Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; persevere in prayer.

Ephesians 6:18 said:
Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints.

I'm not going to beat up on anyone who doesn't pray repeatedly though, because I can't really do it myself. Whenever I hear about someone's need, I pray about it immediately because I know that I'm going to forget about them and their request. The only way I'm ever going to remember is if I see it again, or them again, and I make a new prayer. I'm fighting my people-based memory loss and cynicism from my CPTSD in this area. But that doesn't mean that I should let it win.
