Depends on the Christian. I know people who have been Christians for 30 years and are less "mature" as Christians than I am, and I've only been a Christian for a little more than a year. It has less to do with years than it does with spiritual growth.

It depends more on how long you've spent in the Word, faithfully been connected to other believers, etc. If a convert has spent a couple years doing just that, I wouldn't consider him or her a new believer anymore. For those that don't their faith dies out, unfortunately. Getting saved is not just about fire insurance, it's about becoming a disciple of Christ.

I would hope that we would always be new Christians.

Paul said, "I die daily." Hence, Paul was a new Christian every day.

Every day we must die to self and live in Christ.

Um.. Paul was referring to how he got the tar beat out of him by the romans and jews on a regular basis. You become a Christian once.

Why do you seek to destroy a beautiful thought? If you exegete the passage correctly you will learn that Paul was referring to dying to the carnal nature, or that is to say, self.

In other words, he was saying, every day I renew my relationship with God because I know that giving myself to God must be something that I do every moment, every day!

To think that you do this once and all is well, you are a Christian now, and you no longer have to die to self, is a delusion that Satan wants you to believe.

Christ died once and for all, but we who believe in Him must die daily. We must renew our relationship with God day by day. Hence, we never cease to be new Christians.

Beauty must take a back seat to relevance. The OP was asking when do we become "mature," and how long does it take to mature. Paul talks a lot about that too.

Indeed, but the original question was: When is a new Christian no longer a new Christian?

I just simply answered that question. There was nothing irrelevant about my response.

Sometimes a question can have an answer with many parts. My answer was just one of those parts.
