Dear Daily Message Readers,
READ: Psalm 109
Psalm 109:4 (NASB) "In return for my love they act as my accusers; but I am in prayer."
In 1996, a man in Lansing, Michigan, sued the State of Michigan for $1 million because he says he caught a cold while visiting the state Capitol in February of that same year. He had come to view an art exhibit and later came down with "a cold and a hard cough. He claims that the drafty passageway led to his illness. However, after feeling the embarrassment because of expensive legal costs, the Attorney Generals office settled with the man (Christianglobe.com).
Have you ever been the victim of unfair criticism, harsh attacks, or misunderstandings that you knew were ridiculous but still you had to deal with them? Unless you have been living in a remote location all of your life, you have likely have had such an experience. In Psalm 109, King David faced a similar experience. But how did David respond to the people's rash judgments? Notice today's topic verse: In return for my love they act as my accusers; but I am in prayer. David took his situation to God the ultimate Judge, the One who knew not only David's actions but also his heart (See: Romans 2). And God's judgment was the only one that really mattered.
The next time you feel unfairly criticized, you can be sure that it is going to hurt your feelings, emotions, and self-esteem. But in your hurt don't lash back. Instead, like David, reach up to God and present your case before Him in prayer. He will be your defense, and He has never lost a case.
Faith Lesson: When man turns against you, turn to God with everything you have.
In Christ,
Darin Smith
