MAybe this is a stupid question..but I've just started going out with this guy. We've been on one date and have a couple more planned. He's a Christian who's very on fire for God. But I've never been in a relationship before so this is all new to me? I don't know when it turns from 'going on dates' to 'dating'...

how long did you guys go out before you considered yourself boyfriend/girlfriend? I know it differs for everyone, just wondering though...

My DH introduced me as his girlfriend 3 days after our first date at a new years party. I thought it was soon, but it worked out! It depends on a lot of things. Perhaps you should talk to him about it. He may not know, either!

If you wonder, talk to him about it. My wife and I never decided we were dating. However after managing somehow to see each other every day for 1 1/2 weeks, we realised we must be together... We measure the time we were dating from the day we finally had a conversation that went something like "you realise you'll be the only girl at my birthday party", "I know, your family will tease you about having a girlfriend!" and we just started talking about each other as boyfriend / girlfriend.

It's a wierd thing, as the terms boyfriend/girlfriend can mean many different things in modern culture. I don't like them at all, but for want of a better expression I called my wife my girlfriend until we got formally engaged.

What is more important is that you agree on what your relationship IS. Are you both getting to know the other to assess whether they would be a suitable person to marry? Or are you just hanging out and aren't really intending it to go anywhere? (I wouldn't recommend this type of relationship, but be honest with yourselves about where you see this relationship heading). Agree on what your relationship is. You can then call that a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship if you are happy using those terms.

Just be sure you know what those terms mean to you. I well remember the first Christmas I went to with my (now) wife's family. She introduced me as her "boyfriend" and the first question was "Oh, are you two living together then?". These terms mean different things to everyone!

It's actually a great question; I've been waiting for someone to ask it. I'm not one who's eager to jump into a relationship. I want to make sure we have our priorities straight and could actually be right for each other. And if not, there'd be no gossip about it, since no one knew about it in the first place.

I'd like to have a friendship with a girl before pursuing something more, not start out as boyfriend and girlfriend. If we get to know each other, then we could start "pre-dating;" in other words, no one else in the world but us knows we're together. If things continue to work out then we'd be dating—people could label us as a couple.

The bottom line is this: don't use the "boyfriend" and "girlfriend" labels until the two of you can honestly agree that you're in a serious relationship. You don't want to rush things and give your hopes up only to discovered things weren't getting as serious as you had hoped they were.

to make things easyer some people have to actually have been asked if they would like to go out as a couple, boy friend etc. i used to be like that. makes things more cut and dry, but as im guessing you being a girl arent into asking out like that, just wait and see what he decides.

Personally, I very much dislike the labels of boyfriend and girlfriend. They have come to mean pretty much nothing and evrything in the way a lot of people use them so I have just stopped. I guess I'm not answering the question at all since I would rather not be someone's 'boyfriend', or have a 'girlfriend'.
