Greetings!
I am doing the Goldhead online Catechism course with my son. It is marvelous, with such consultants as Fr. Levis and Fr. Trijilio, to name just two.
A couple of weeks ago we were referred to a page of the USCCB website and the reference included the Lord's Prayer (Our Father) and they have changed a part that I consider quite significant. :o
Instead of "...and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us"...
which of course makes an unequivocal statement...
they have rendered it "...and forgive us our trespasses, for we forgive all who trespass against us."
Now it's possible that they did not use "trespass" and substituted some more modern word. But that is a minor point.
My concern is with the very different statement we are making with the "for" (because) substituted for the "as" (to the extent that).
I did not even know about this because we say it the older way at Mass.
Does anyone know the story behind this?
