GenetoJean, I dress very plain. The Bible is clear that adorning oneself is wrong. In Job 40, 9-10, God tells Job, "Do you have an arm like Gods, and can your voice thunder like his? "Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor, and clothe yourself in honor and majesty" So, if Job is like God than he should adorn himself with splendor. Since Job and I are both human, se should not. In 1 Peter 3, Paul writes that, "Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in Gods sight" This was addressed to women because in ancient culture, men usually ignored their appearance without being thus admonished. I believe that it applies to women and men, and in today's culture, some men really need to hear it. 1 Timothy 2:9 says a similar thing about dressing modestly and adorning oneself with good deeds. I would also ask what the reason is in decorating oneself? I see no reason that we should take our focus off God and onto ourselves. I see no reason that we should spend our time and money on our appearances when there are so many better uses of our resources. This doesn't really make sense to me. A white phone is the same as a black one. It doesn't cause different reactions in people and it will distract you just as well as a black one. "Should a car have electric windows" is a question that falls under stewardship. The issue I am trying to address is pride-specifically, that it is not right to focus on one's appearance. Finally, we agree on something! This is what I have been saying all along. The Bible says that pride is a sin. (Mark 7:21-23) Willingly and repeatedly submitting to pride by getting piercings, wearing makeup, wearing fashionable clothing, and other ways of adorning the self is anti-Biblical. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says, "Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." Obviously, glorifying ourselves by trying to look cool or beautiful is anti-Biblical. Does this make sense? God bless you, Grace
