  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

He's been president for all of a 100 days. Why in the world is he running a campaign commercial so extremely early? Is he so desperate to have nice things said about him on TV that he shells out for it? Well, not himself, of course, but his campaign. When I saw it, I wondered who paid for it (and why). It says "Paid for by Donald J Trump For Preisident Inc, Approved By Donald Trump.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/01/...edCoverage&region=EndOfArticle&pgtype=article

NYTimes said:
The advertisement is paid for by Mr. Trump’s re-election campaign, for which he filed papers in January, on the day he was sworn in.

Mr. Trump’s campaign said it would spend $1.5 million to air the advertisement throughout the country, a relatively small sum that does not indicate a major national public relations campaign. But it underscores Mr. Trump’s strategy of returning remarkably early to partisan politics, including a series of re-election campaign rallies that began only weeks into his presidency.
Weird.

Weird, indeed. I guess that Donald Trump is giving credibility to the notion that politicians are always running for office.

Frankly, I think it's a hoot. I quit expecting anything good from the federal government about 20 years ago (Obamacare just reminded me how much I really dislike the government messing around in my business). I do like to be entertained, however, and Trump is marvelous at that...

He is thinking outside of the box. It's very smart to do this. Advertising is popular because science has proven it actually works.

His approval ratings are low. That is just embarrassing and unacceptable.
He wants his budget passed in September. He wants his tax cuts passed by Congress. So he is doing his best to get his base to back him up.
The tweets are not enough so on the campaign trail he will go and TV ads are just a part of that.
Help President Trump make 'American Great Again'.

Frankly I would appreciate him learning to run the country first. I would like him to take a Civics class on the Constitution and the three branches of government.

When the only message you hear in the media is negative, where it was found that 91% of his media coverage was biasedly negative, where people want to obstruct, divide, and create chaos, etc, etc, etc, ...and the only thing you guys are objecting to is a single Trump commercial trying to spread some hope and positivity that maybe the news is trying to suppress.

Whether you agree or not, Trump HAD done some good, even if some of it was sloppy. I feel like he's getting his feet under him now and improving.

How about a thread from dems condeming the May Day riots or the Antifa riots for a change.

At least he's not wagging his finger at us and telling us "who we are" once a month or so. Eight years of that got old in a hurry...

I wonder how that hugging flag family from the thumbnail will react when they realise that tax break was for the bosses of 3 of the 4 jobs the parents have to work to put food on the table.

Can CF add a poll to each new thread so we can vote on whether the attempted distraction from Trump's failings will be Obama, Clinton, or a list of other options to be added as needed? Seems like the site could take in bets and use it to fund updates.

Which is actually pretty clever. Donald has already filed for his 2020 re-election campaign, which means that technically, everything he says and does now is part of that campaign...

It also means that anything said against him at this point can be technically construed as campaigning against him... and there are laws against certain non-profit organizations campaigning for or against specific candidates...

There's really nothing so unusual about this. The only point may concern the '100 days' part, but I can't remember any previous president who was so thoroughly obstructed by the opposition party than this one, so I suppose the timing is understandable.

But to what end at this point? He's already president and no one will remember this three years from now.

If he were campaigning to get his policies passed during the contentious Congressional debate, sure, have at it, but simply touting his personal accomplishments (fact-check) and slapping at the "fake news" (who refused to run this ad on account of false advertising) - just seems like a waste of resources.

Welcome to democracy, this is not unusual.
There's really nothing so unusual about this.
It is extremely unusual.

I can't recall another president who ran an re-election campaign commercial less than four months into their current term. Not Obama, not Bush 43, not Clinton, not Bush 41, not Reagan, not Carter, not Ford, not Nixon, not LBJ, not Kennedy - the others were before TV. Yes, this is so unusual it is unprecedented, as far as I know.

I agree that it's unusual. However, Trump isn't exactly a "usual" president. Those who love him and hate him should be able to agree on at least one thing -- Trump is unique.

Obama ran an eternal campaign, and now Trump is going to do the same. Trump's is a bit more obvious, but at least I can click the x to skip it.
But Obama!!! Really, Rion? And, no, he did not run paid TV commercials touting his supposed accomplishments 100 days into his first term. If he campaigned during this time, like other presidents before him, it was to get legislation passed (which he actually accomplished), not to tell people how great he was. You know this.
