Very windy Thurs eve and during the night. The south of England seems to have had it much worse though, and some people have been without electricity over Christmas. Tonight calm and cold, but above freezing.

The last few days have been grey with a squally wind that whistles eerily around my window. But today the old currant bun ( sun) came out again then left us with a spectacular, pastelly sunset.

Its Winter here btw. At least we've got past the half way mark though.

It is cold, about 12F, and snowing in Chicagoland. We may get half a foot before it's said and done, though the Lake Effect region may see more than that.

It's 18F, sank from 21F when I woke up at 4:00 this morning, going down to -7F tonight. Somebody turned the lake-effect snow machine on and right now we're getting some of that. I understand we're under lake-effect snow until 9:30 or thereabouts this morning. A bit unusual, lake effect rarely comes this far West of the lake (I'm a good twenty miles West of the lakefront). The reason it reaches so far East is that here, the prevailing winds are Westerlies. But, this morning the winds are sweeping the length of Lake Michigan from a North-Easterly direction so we're getting it right now.

Warming up to 15F this afternoon, increasing winds will produce blowing and drifting in open areas. Driving in open country should be a character-builder this afternoon.

Cold temps. 10 degrees this morning with wind chill of 0, and 1/2 to 1" of snow. Warmer Sat., and snow on Sun. and Mon. with colder temps., with highs next week in single digits and lows below 0. End of next week is forecast to be around 40 next Fri.
