  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's the difference between Satan and Lucifer?

"Lucifer" is the Latin translation of the planet Venus as found in Isaiah 14:12 in the Vulgate, which was borrowed directly into the English of the King James and some other early English translations. An epithet against the [human] ruler of Babylon who thought himself important--even divine--but would certainly fall.

Satan, from the Hebrew haShatan, means "the accuser" and is a term used in reference to the chief of the devils, the Devil. Also called Beelzebub, the prince of darkness, the evil one, etc. The chief of the fallen angels, the demons/devils, who rebel against God and who oppose God's people.

Satan is a person.
Lucifer is a planet (Venus). Otherwise known as the "day star."

A "satan" is a person who is accusatory or stands in an adversarial relationship to another. (Hence Yeshua saying "satan, get behind me").

To be "lucifer" means to have the characteristic of shining and daylight--thus Yeshua as the glorious and resplendent Son of God revealed to humanity is described as a lucifer in the Latin of 2 Peter 1:19.

Unfortunately, Satan is nowhere called or characterised as Lucifer in any bible.

Absolutely no difference Lucifer and Satan are the same person mentioned in Isaiah 14 and Revelation of John as the beast of the bottomless Pitt.

In Isaiah satan is said to have blinded the world and made them captive heart and mind to his devious ways, hence the statement:

Isaiah 14:17
That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?

It is clear from the epistles that Satan is the king of Babylon that represents the world. Now the same person clearly offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the world if he only worshipped him.

Also in Isaiah and Revelation satan is said to be the Assyrian and the king of Babylon who was cast down to the side of the Pitt.

Isaiah 14:15
Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

So the beast of the bottomless Pitt is aka Satan who is the king of this world and all the kings of this world are his.

Isaiah 14:9
Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming:
it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth;
it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.

It is quite clear that satan is the king of this world by the following statement:

Isaiah 14:21-22
Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities. For I will rise up against them, saith the Lord of hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant,
and son, and nephew, saith the Lord.

Isaiah 14:25
That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot:
then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders.

What is alarming about this person satan is that God will bring him into the world for slaughter San the following statements declare God's decree:

Isaiah 14:9-11
Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us? Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.

Just from the versus above Satan is going to counterfeit Christ's incarnation by actually coming to the world as the messiah, where Hell is prepared for him at his coming. Which coming?

His second coming. The second coming of Satan as messiah on earth.

The verse that confirms this is the kings of the world that are his leading men say to him:

Have you become human and weak like us in a literal sense, because what follows next is this:

Thy pomp and ceremony of your second coming will be brought down to the grave.

Any people that try to hide satan as a person are in fact his children, the TARES.

Good! But the satans are a class of evil spirits in heaven with one chief, and the Lake of Fire was made for them to rule over and torment forever those cast there.

The chief is also called "Belial", and" Ma-stema" [chief of the satans],

"Lucifer" is just a poor translation with a great deal of superfluous baggage attached to it.
Yep. Lucifer as Satan and a fallen angel is not the doctrine of the Word of God and is a "christian" fable.

Satan corrupts strength, and therefore creates conflict.

Lucifer corrupts the mind, and therefore creates confusion.

The Devil corrupts the heart, and therefore creates evil.

Once you are schooled in the differences in these, you will find the principle thing is still to resist him. Temptations, of which there are many, are fundamentally the same thing in Christ. If you keep the gospel, you will resist the Devil.

You can't just go around making stuff up; is this allowed here?

What school are you suggesting and who is the tutor?

It's inspired by the Holy Spirit, justified by personal experience and testimony and backed up by tests you can do yourself.

Scripture tells us to test the spirit, that is what you should be doing.

I don't have to suggest a school, there is one teacher, even Jesus.

By the way, "licifer" is Latin for shining [one].
quomodo cecidisti de caelo lucifer qui mane oriebaris corruisti in terram qui vulnerabas gentes
means
How great is your fall from heaven, O shining one, son of the morning! How are you cut down to the earth, low among the dead bodies!

Title says it all JACK. ;)

Lucifer is not a name but a title. It was mistakenly given to the Devil but it actually is a title given to the King of Babylon, who was thought to be divine but would die like any other truly mortal being.

Satan is Hebrew and is actually part of a title, "the Accuser". The term was even given to God Himself once or twice in the OT, although today it is typically and traditionally given to the Devil.

We have no record name for the Devil.

Lol?...

Well we got a lot of opinions. O_O I wasn't expecting opinions I was expecting a straight answer from all of you. This is surprising...

Unfortunately, a lot of people have some very bad information.

The ones who are accurate are, as follows:

  1. ViaCrucis

A study on the Hebrew is all it takes to verify the truth of their words.
