I wish that water from the tap here had no taste.

Nothing like the smell and taste of chlorine, fluoride and whatever metals the pipe are made from to make you pinch your nose before downing tap water.

I hate tap water but I hate filling my huge filter pitcher thing every two minutes.

You must live in a hard water area too... Yeah, I tend to pay the extra on my food bill and invest in a few bottles of mineral water. Even when I'm thirsty I don't want to drink from the tap.

Yes, its the first time I've had to ever really deal with hard water..... at this level at least.

When my toilet started looking like a gas station toilet even while "clean".... thats when I realized just how hard the water is here.

I use a pur filter. It works, but the problem is to get cold water on demand I have to constantly fill it... otherwise it becomes empty and useless.

I don't mind filling it now and then, but when you try and switch from sodas to water drinking..... it becomes empty too fast even though its one of the larger versions of the pitchers (the one with the spigot that you don't take out of the fridge except to fill it.)

English tap water is disgusting.... Just buy a filter jug and your grand. Plus the limescale use to drive me mad.

In Scotland we drink right oot the tap lovely.. And no lime scale or anything

Well, the separate spheres ideology actually originated in Ancient Greece and was talked about by Aristotle. I'm not sure about what it looked like in Victorian England beyond the stereotypical Pride and Prejudice: "A woman must have a thorough knowledge of music, singing, drawing, dancing, and the modern languages….; and besides all this, she must possess a certain something in her air and manner of walking, the tone of her voice, her address and expressions..." etc.

There were a few "philosophers" that fought against the idea, and Queen Victoria had a long reign , but by 1900 nothing had changed much in the day to day.

And on the flip side you have French philosopher Alexis de Tocqueville who studied the idea in 1840 America: "although the women of the United States are confined within the narrow circle of domestic life, and their situation is in some respects one of extreme dependence, I have nowhere seen women occupying a loftier position; and if I were asked...to what the singular prosperity and growing strength of that people ought mainly to be attributed, I should reply,—to the superiority of their women."

And even those results are questionable because the purported "toxins" are in such minute quantities that the effects on the body are negligible.
