A white westerner that idolizes the ways on the Japanese people and their culture. You can usually spot the typical "Otaku" mixing Japanese words into their sentences and talking about which anime character is hotter. I hope that helps.

well otakus like me do tend to speak "otaku japanese" which is basically just adding random japanese words to our english, sometimes it fits the situation and sometimes not. For instance when I do cuss I tend to do it in japanese.
Ahh yes and we do discuss which anime characters are hotter. Me and my friends do so at luch almost everyday :D YAY!! Actually we talk about other stuff too, though it's ussually an anime based discussion.

Otakus take their anime very seriously and you may tick off someone if you insult a genre of anime they love and you hate.

anyway the term Otaku in japanese is a pretty offensive term, basically a social outcast, it's not used to describe anime fans specifically, but anyone who belongs to a fandom and takes it extremely seriously.

TV shows which are usually currently airing in Japan that have been subtitled by Western fans and released. Usually available online, although it originated on VHS. They usually have a code of ethics which maintains that they stop subtitling/distributing them when the series is released in their respective countries and urge the people watching to buy the domestic DVDs when they come out. Most scanlation groups have the same code, except replacing DVDs with books or whatever.

Technically, it's infringing on copyright, as it's unauthorized distribution, but the companies generally turn a blind eye toward it unless the groups breach the aforementioned codes of ethics.

Otaku are to Anime, Manga, and Japanese culture presented through media what a Trekkie is to Star Trek.

It's not required that they be virgins, but most of them are.

As for idolatry, it could become idolatrous, or it could just be another regular state of being that some Christians participate in. Kind of like sports, I've seen Christians that are into sports, and Christians that engage in idolatry with sports.

This is pretty close the only thing that hasn't been mentioned is that Otaku are not only Americans mixing Japanese words into conversation. It can be a Japanese person as well. Basically Abbadon hit it on the head with that statement, just realise that isn't just people that don't come from Japan idolizing it but it applys to anyone and everyone with this type of fandom including the Japanese.

The Japanese Otaku also typically still live with their parents and usually depend on their money and leech off them. They also are so into anime that the very obbesessed Otaku have a stench to them and their apperance is distinguishable from others. Umm... not sure how to get this across though. I guess they'd probably be wearing a t-shirt with a specific anime character and hat with a logo , things like that.

Anyways, hope that helps as well?

I'm here for anymore questions, I know alot about Japan and it's culture and my sister's fiancee ( soon to be husband in just a few days ) is actually Japanese and grew up in Japan so I can ask him for any further information. :)

Chicks can generally get away with some stuff guys can't in modern society.

Dude with a good taste in wines - considered prissy.
Chick with a good taste in wines - considered classy.

Dude wearing a kilt - haha, look at the man in a dress!
Chick wearing women's pants - it's a sign that we're not in the dark ages.

lol...

(o-tah-ku) In Japan, otaku is a fairly derogatory term used to describe an obsessed fan of something (not necessarily anime). In North America, however, the term is often a badge of honor for hard-core anime fans. Sometimes also used to refer to anime fans in general.

A Japanophile is a person with an unusually strong interest in Japan or its culture. Although Japanophile can be used to refer to people with intellectual interests in Japan, such as historians, linguists or sociologists, the term is typically used outside of Japan in a derisive manner to refer to anime fans, or otaku.

On some Internet message boards, the slang term wapanese (ワパニーズ), or weeaboo is often used to describe a strong Japanophile.

Gotta love Google. n.n"

STAY AWAY FROM ANIME!

lol.

lol.

I'm sorry.

lol.

No, I'm not.

Dude, otaku aren't demons, they're people. Otaku are to anime and manga what trekkies are to Star Trek.

If you watch Hentai, yeah, there's sexual stuff there, but saying anime is evil and contains hidden sexual stuff is just like saying "American cartoons encourage gang violence". If watching anime will tempt you into sinning, don't read the Bible, because there is plenty of sex, violence, and sorcery in there. The Bible would actually make a great anime. And then it'd be cool if they made a live action movie of it.

*Remembers the Matrix movies*. Oh yeah...

The content of entertainment doesn't matter, it's the person viewing it. YOU have a problem with anime. QUIT BOTHERING THOSE HERE THAT LIKE ANIME AND DON'T HAVE SPIRITUAL PROBLEMS BECAUSE OF IT!

Not everything is absolute. I can survive (correction, I survive simply because) of the amount of caffiene I consume daily. My grandmother would die if she consumed half the caffiene I did. I can subsist on microwave burritos, off-brand imitation white castle burgers, and soda. The ministers at my church would be hospitalized for eating as much of it as I do.

YOU have a problem. WE are not YOU. We are seperate individuals, some of which are capable of following Christ while enjoying anime.
