What would you change about your church?

Hello brothers and sisters in Christ,

Our church had this discussion a few months ago but thought it would be relevant to bring to light again. What are some things that you wish your church did differently in their effort to bring more souls to Christ? Some of the topics for us fell around getting younger people more involved with mentorship in different church roles, actively going and inviting people from other churches of other denominations, and offering more practical classes (like tutoring, basic computer usage, financial planning, etc.) to the community that we are in. What are your takes? Since we are the next generation to inherit the leadership roles within the church, I've always wondered in what areas things could be improved.

I would partner with other churches in the synod (ELCA Lutheran, and probably add Episcopal churches too) to consolidate programs and spread around the people.

It makes little sense for every struggling church to expend resources to have a youth, kids, adult, and senior program. All it means is that they are all mediocre and generally poorly attended. If a group of 4-5 churches could get together they could consolidate programming and have resources funneled to one group, and provide a far superior offering.

I listened to a program about several synagogues that did this in the Washington DC area and it is working out great for them. It really makes a lot of sense in denominations that are having issues with attendance and drawing people.

Churches need to have both an open mic and to have accountability for those that give messages. Most have neither, and it is even rarer to have both.

The second thing I have never seen completely involves more fellowship and giving. Acts 2:44-47 (KJV)
44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

I'd like it if the traditional Latin Mass became more prevalent in the Catholic Church. It's popular with our age group and attracts them to the Mass. Aside from that, I don't have any real quibbles with the Catholic Church.

I can't even apply this quibble to my local parish because it recently began offering the TLM.

Have a greater percentage of worship songs that concentrate more on the immutable aspects of God than the songwriter's emotional reaction to them.
For when we get back in the sanctuary, let's have just the lyrics on the screen rather than the lyrics plus the video feed.
Make it easier for young people to meet together, yet be plugged in to the life of the church. I'm not exactly sure how to do that. For all the good that the youth group model does, it kind of stunts the initiative that young people need to put forward to connect after they graduate high school, and that's not just an "our church" problem. Young people who went to other churches who are so conditioned already check the church out.

The lead pastor at my church only preaches about once a month. I think whoever is in charge should be doing the bulk of the preaching, but that's just my opinion.

Sometimes I wish more of the music was more old school. I like some contemporary Christian music, but I love the psalms, hymns, and chants of yore. One of the campuses (yes, my church has 2 campuses) has a pipe organ and I love it.

There's not a group for 25-40ish. It skips from college-aged to older married. Seems to be ongoing issue w/ most churches I've tried.

I wish my church would acknowledge that the little community of 12,000 people the building is located in is not the only place we should be serving. Particularly when there are two significantly larger communities within 1-3 miles -including the one where I and almost half of the members live.

I can't even apply this quibble to my local parish because it recently began offering the TLM.

That's a little tougher as it requires a lot of coordination and learning for the people offering it. When I attended the RCC I tried to get our priest to offer it, but he was resistant to learning a new Mass and never ended up doing it. But our Bishop then and now is not really supportive of the TLM.

My church has always rented a school on Sunday mornings as we are quite small around 100 people. I don't think we will ever have our own building to call home (Which I don't mind most of the time) but sometimes it would be nice to have our own building so we could have more ministries/activities at the building during the week.
