They were likely living their eternal lives in the presence of their Creator. Pretty much just as they still are today.

People can get caught up in trying to understand angels and demons. Some people theorize that the reason there is such a lack of information in the Bible, along with things like an extreme lack of information about Jesus' life before age 30, is because it would sidetrack us from what is important: filling ourselves with a knowledge, devotion, and love of our one and only Creator God who is our only source of Truth, Life, hope, and a future. Everything else has been made and is not nearly as important to us, no matter what it may seem like.
