What TV shows,
show Christians in a positive way?
There is a Christian show that I like, which is Vindication, a crime show, with a positive outcome at the end of every episode. :) Christians are portrayed in a positive light. Any good Christian shows that you like?

Older ones might include the Waltons, Little House on the Prairie, and Gunsmoke. Tim Allen in Home Improvement and even Reba had some moments. God Friended Me was interesting as well. I don't know much about more recent shows. Seems there are more dedicated to immorality and witchcraft than Christianity for some years now.

Here in the UK, I can't think of any. I like detective series, Midsomer Murders, Inspector Morse, Vera, etc. Nearly every time a Christian, particularly a Christian minister is portrayed, there is something "odd" about them. Such a pity!

You might like Father Brown. It is a detective series that has a Catholic priest as the detective/hero. :)

I can't think of any good mainstream examples. I find that Christians are generally portrayed as either ignorant or hypocritical, or both. At best they may be very vanilla if we consider older sitcoms and dramas. But these days, whenever Christian characters, especially clergy, are intended by the writers to be likeable, they're always very un-Christian and edgy.

I can't remember the details, but besides simply being a result of sin, there's a historical reason why things are the way they are. There was a code in Hollywood that forbade or at least strongly discouraged portraying religion unfairly. I think it was the Hays Code which reads:

"Those things which are included in the following list shall not appear in pictures produced by the members of this Association, irrespective of the manner in which they are treated:
1. Pointed profanity—by either title or lip—this includes the words God, Lord, Jesus, Christ (unless they be used reverently in connection with proper religious ceremonies), Hell, S.O.B., damn, Gawd, and every other profane and vulgar expression however it may be spelled;
...
10. Ridicule of the clergy;
11. Willful offense to any nation, race or creed;"

But I think this code was overturned in the 60s, and from that point on, following Western culture, Christians have been increasingly portrayed unfavourably, typically as unintelligent, cowardly, judgmental, hypocritical, and malicious.

My least favourite thing is hearing sermon snippets for what writers imagine sermons are like. Or clergy and other Christians being really simple-minded and having nothing good to offer or any insightful dialogues whatsoever. The only recent show I can think of that features Christians with at least some depth is Midnight Mass, but even that is a mixed bag.

Yes I do, though I am not a Roman Catholic.
And that is perfectly fine. At least we both enjoy the show. :) I started watching it in the 2010s before I became Catholic (2022), so I should start it from the beginning again.
